Imagine ang isang device na lumilikha ng sound wave para apulahin ang apoy bago pa man ito lumaki.
Ito ang award-winning invention ng electrical engineering graduates mula sa University of Mindanao.
Tinawag itong “portable fire exterminator using shock waves” na gumagamit ng sound vibration para patayin ang apoy bago pa man ito lumubha.
Si Engineer Francis James Bagol at ilang kasamahan ang developer ng shock wave fire exterminator.
Ipina-patent na nila ang invention.
Ani Bagol sa GMA Integrated News interview: “Yung device namin is for [putting out] instantaneous fire, yung nagsisimula pa lang.
“Yun ang kagandahan ng device namin kasi puwede siyang ilagay sa ceiling.
“Pag may na-detect na fire, kayang i-extinguish kaagad.”
Dagdag niya, “Pinag-aralan namin nang mabuti ang design, yung range ng kanyang pagbuga ng sound waves, and then yung efficiency din niya.”
Paliwanag ni Bagol, “So yung barrel is pino-focus niya yung sound energy into one focal hole, so dun lumalabas na mas malakas na ang [sound wave] niya.

HOW TO USE SHOCK WAVE EXTERMINATOR
Sa website ng Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), nakadetalye kung paano at saan mapakikinabangan ang device.
“An electronic device that uses shock waves having a specific frequency to extinguish a fire.
“It aims to extinguish a fire, especially in enclosed places with many electrical wirings or a gadget and appliances that are dangerous to exterminate using water.”
May fire sensor din ito.
“If the fire sensor detects a fire, the device will automatically turn on to extinguish the fire,” ayon sa ACM website.
At kaya nitong apulahin ang apoy in just a matter of seconds.
Pagpapatuloy sa site, ““The shockwaves produce enough power to distinguish fire in seconds, depending on the type of fuel used.
“The shock wave that the speaker produces is traveling inside the barrel and makes an amplified shock wave in its mouth that has a small diameter to aim and penetrate the fire efficiently.
“The device is tested at different distances using different types of fuel, the result shows that the fire can exterminate as quickly as possible if the distance is near.”

ADVANTAGES OF THE DEVICE
Nagtataglay rin ng maraming advantages ang invention na ito.
Una, mayroon itong manual at automatic functions, depende kung ako ang nais gamitin ng user.
Ang prototype ay pinapagana ng rechargeable sodium ion battery.
At bagamat sound wave ang gamit, 80 decibles lamang ang noise level nito kaya safe pa rin sa pandinig.
Nagiging delikado ang decibels kapag ito ay 85 pataas.
Eco-friendly rin ang device na ito at walang chemical residue na inilalabas.
First place ang invention sa Department of Science and Technology 2021 Regional Invention Contest and Exhibit Region XI, at second place sa 2022 National Invention Contest and Exhibits.
