DIANA FE GASGA’S STRONG DETERMINATION TO STUDY IN COLLEGE
PanimuIang kuwento ni Diana: “I am the third of five siblings. My father is a fisherman, and my mother is a housewife.”
“Not only because we weren’t financially capable, but also because I couldn’t see myself becoming a nurse.
“When I graduated from senior high school, I didn’t have a specific program I wanted to pursue, but I knew I wanted to study in college.”
“A day before I was supposed to enroll in Biology, my aunt called me and said she would pay for my tuition if I took up nursing.
“I said yes without thinking about the possible challenges I would face along the way.”
It wasn’t an easy journey, but I found my calling to care for others during nursing school."

FINANCIAL STRUGGLES as nursing student
“But the one that affects me the most is our financial struggle.
“As everyone knows, taking up nursing is very expensive.
“Although my aunt pays for my RLE [Related Learning Experience] fees, my parents still have to provide my allowance and the monthly rent for me and my two siblings who are also in college.”
Kaya ang nangyayari: “There were times when my weekly allowance was only PHP500, and I would avoid bringing my wallet to school just so I wouldn’t be tempted to buy snacks or anything unnecessary.”
“I started to lose my drive and passion for studying, and there were countless moments when I felt like giving up.”

SILVER LINING FOR DIANA FE GASGA
“Whenever I reached the point of almost giving up, I would always think of my parents.
“That thought pushes me to keep showing up at school and during duties, so I can pass and eventually graduate despite all the challenges that come my way.”

“One of the biggest reasons why I want to finish my studies is to give my parents the life they truly deserve.”
Paglalarawan niya sa mga magulang: “Ever since I was young, I’ve seen how hard my mama and papa worked just to provide everything we needed.
“They never complained, nor did they ever tell us to stop studying even when things were difficult.
“My parents are full of dreams for me and my siblings and that inspires me to continue striving no matter what.”

DIANA FE GASGA’S STRUGGLES DURING REVIEW AND BOARD EXAM
“First is the financial burden that comes with taking the board exam, since we need to pay for the review center and monthly rent.
“Second is the pressure I felt from the moment I started reviewing up until the day of the board exam.
“And lastly, the stress and anxiety that were constantly present throughout the process.”

ON NURSING BOARD EXAM
“Not because I didn’t study the concepts.
“In fact, my review center and the lecturers covered almost everything that appeared on the board exam.
“But one factor that made it hard for me was my anxiety.
“There were questions that were actually easy, but I couldn’t understand them right away, and I couldn’t answer because my anxiety kept creeping in and making me overthink everything.”

DIANA FE GASGA NOT EXPECTING TO BE A TOPNOTCHER
“I graduated without Latin honors so when I started reviewing, I didn’t really expect myself to become a topnotcher.
“I just wanted to pass.
“Did I pray for it?
“No, not really. My only prayer to God during my review was to keep me motivated so I wouldn’t lose the drive to pursue my dreams again.”
“I started to see my performance improve, and that made me believe that maybe I could do it—that I could become a topnotcher.”

“I also hope to teach in the academe and review centers in the future.”
