"I don’t really know many fashion rules or follow them intentionally," he told PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) in an interview coursed through Vani Altomonte via Facebook Messenger.
He continued, "I usually go by feeling. And when it feels right, I’m ready to go."
James added that balancing trends with personal style is a day-to-day experiment.
His fashion tip: Start with accessories because, according to the singer-actor, "it’s less of a commitment than buying new pieces of clothing."
He continued, "Then move to experimenting with clothing once you feel comfortable. Or just stop caring what people think and do what you want!"

Another key insight James shared is that confidence is the ultimate accessory to any outfit.
"It’s easy to follow trends but the trick is how to make it to your own," James said.
"For example, adding a new cut or silhouette to the prints/designs/color palette that is uniquely you."
He continued, "Own your identity and be proud of it, then no matter what you wear or what you do or how you express yourself, it’ll be with a quiet confidence."

Meanwhile, on February 25, 2025, he was introduced as the latest brand ambassador of PENSHOPPE, joining forces with BINI, Julia Barretto, Miguel Tanfelix, and EXO's Chanyeol, the global ambassador.
