From the moment that the world witnessed Prince William and Kate Middleton announce their engagement, people couldn’t help but remember the late Princess Diana through Kate.
One of the prominent ways that the Duchess of Cambridge and the late Princess of Wales drew comparison was through their classic sense of fashion.
Here are five key fashion moments when Kate drew style inspiration from Diana.

Princess Diana’s Elizabeth Emanuel wedding gown drew attention for its "fourteen meters of ivory-colored taffeta silk decorated with old lace, puff sleeves that looked like candy floss, a ruched neckline, ribbons, and a crinoline skirt."
Not to mention the fact that it had "ten thousand mother-of-pearl sequins, stitched by hand, shimmered in the eight-meter-long train."
On the other hand, Kate’s Alexander McQueen wedding gown had less frills.
According to Hello Magazine, the Duchess collaborated with designer Sarah Burton to create a design that merged “royal tradition with a modern sense of style.”
The Duchess of Cambridge wore a different dress for her wedding reception at Clarence House in April 2001.
The “white angora bolero cardigan” and the “diamante embroidered detail” echoed one of Diana’s looks in 1988.

At the recently-held Diplomatic Reception ball in Buckingham Palace, Kate honored Princess Diana by wearing one of the late princess’ favorites, the Cambridge Lover’s Knot tiara.
Crafted in 1913, Queen Elizabeth II gave the intricate pearl and diamond-encrusted tiara to Diana in 1981.
