"Straight out of a fairy tale book."
This sums up the latest collection of Dubai-based Filipino designer Michael Cinco that were presented during the Fashion Forward Season 9 at Dubai Design District on March 23, 2017.
Aptly titled The Impalpable Dream of Versailles, his Fall/Winter 2017 couture collection was inspired by the Palace of Versailles, a former French royal residence and center of government which was turned into a national landmark in France.
Michael visited the famous French tourist site back in July 2016 when he made his Paris Fashion Week debut.
His fashion show was divided into three parts.
The first was about the Infanta Maria Theresa collection, which was composed mainly of ball gowns with detailed appliques and strategically placed Swarovski crystals.
This reminded us of the stunning blue gown that Cinderella wore to Prince Charming's grand ball.
The Baroque Boiserie collection featured form-fitting lace dresses with art deco-inspired bead work.
The Women of Sun King collection was characterized by rich floral embroideries.
The Le Brun collection, his tribute to French painter and art theorist Charles Le Brun, had Baroque coats with matching breeches.
The prints were reminiscent of Le Brun's masterpieces.
The show's main attractions were these three "magical" ball gowns, which were embroidered—from bustier to the hem—with tons of Swarovski crystals in degrade.
See how they sparkled in the dark and changed hues when exposed to light.
In an email exchange with Cinco, he said each gown took "around three to four months" to be completed.
And if you want to own one, the blue and black gowns cost $16,500 (roughly PHP 824,000) each, while the yellow gown is priced at $20,500 (or PHP 1.023 million).
