The person behind Jennifer Lopez's sparkly outfit on the cover of Paper magazine is a Filipino.

Jennifer Lopez and Mariah Carey are back-to-back cover girls of Paper magazine's special edition.

Placing the two magazine covers side by side, people are said to be instantly drawn to J Lo's sparkling costume.

Do you know that a Filipino designed it?

THE PINOY DESIGNER. Meet Rocky Gathercole, a Pinoy designer with an A-list clientele that includes Katy Perry, Thalia, Lady Gaga, Gwen Stefani, Paris Hilton, Nicki Minaj, and Britney Spears.

Rocky grew up a homeless kid in Pasay, and worked as a waiter in Makati, before he crossed paths with his former nanny, whom he refers to as Mama Vicente.

The latter, then an assistant to a fashion designer in Saudi Arabia, offered him a job.

Eventually, he became an assistant to a known fashion designer in Dubai.

He moved to the U.S. in 2010.

AVANT-GARDE DESIGNS. Four of J Lo's costumes for her All I Have shows in Las Vegas were designed by Rocky.

For the singer/dancer, Rocky used these themes: Showgirl, Stars, Shining Stars, and Fabulous.

Rocky told PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) in an exchange via text messaging last August 22: "Na-e-excite pa rin ako, lalo na yung mga A-Lister talaga ang mga binibihisan ko."

A recent client among our local stars is Sharon Cuneta.

Rocky says one thing he has learned from the fashion industry is that only a few can be your true friends.

“Alam mo naman sa Pilipinas, padri-padrino, saka paramihan ng friend na stylist, but it’s not my style.

"I work only with my favorite stylist in Manila, si Vhee Co. Yung iba, dedma ako.

"Dumami talaga ang mga kaibigan mo, pero nadi-discern ko naman kung sino ang totoo."
