Matteo Guidicelli, 28, believes that ripped jeans never goes out of style, so he collaborated with fashion designer Avel Bacudio to create a denim collection called Avel x Matteo.
The singer/actor/businessman said his fascination for this kind of jeans started way back in the early '90s.
He recalled, “Noong middle school, pa-high school ako, ripped jeans was always in, di ba?
“It was never out.
“There’s a time people stopped wearing ripped jeans kasi sabi nila passé na yan.
“But I still continue [wearing it] because I love it, e.
“Some of my jeans, I ripped it myself, I make holes myself.
“Then, yung mga ripped na, I’ll rip it even more.”
Avel interestingly noted that during the process of creating Avel x Matteo, he noticed that his business/design partner was even more interested in designing ripped jeans for women.
“Gustung-gusto niya talaga sa mga babae, yung maraming butas,” Avel said in jest.
Matteo was quick to clarify, “For the women, dapat even more ripped talaga.
“If you have it, you have to flaunt it, di ba? It complements talaga the woman’s shape, with the ripped [jeans], kitang-kita talaga yung ‘wow, legs.'”
The Kapamilya actor further explained, “My input with Avel was a lot for the females.
“I was saying, ‘Bro, kailangan talaga para sa mga babae, pinaka-importante to.
“Kasi, maraming babae na takot sila sa jeans kasi, halimbawa, malaki yung balakang nila, malaki yung hips nila.
“But this is something beautiful, this is something that they have to complement.
“So, some jeans out there, when they wear jeans feeling nila malaki ang rear side nila.
“But our jeans complement it. Our jeans really has that form, it’s sexy and nice.
“It makes the woman hundred times more beautiful.”
RIPPED JEANS FOR A CAUSE
More than keeping ripped jeans in style, Matteo initiated the collaboration with Avel to help a home for abandoned kids in Baguio, which the latter has been supporting ever since.
“'Gagawin natin ito with a purpose,'” Avel recalled what Matteo told him during the planning.
Matteo then added, “The advocacy here is very, very nice because Avel is very close to kids in Baguio who are visually impaired.
“He told me, ‘Matteo, I wanna give a percentage to them right away.’”
“I haven’t met them in person, but I saw the VTR when we presented to them in Shoppee,” Matteo continued, referring to a video presentation shown at the headquarters of Shoppee, an online marketplace.
“It was very touching and I hope after Bagani, we can go to Baguio and visit these kids.
“These kids are abandoned by their parents at a very young age because they think the kids are hopeless, wala na silang buhay dahil bulag sila. It’s very sad.
“When I saw the video, it was very touching because these kids have life.
“These kids have so much life. It doesn’t mean that when they are visually impaired or hearing impaired, you’re done.
“No, there’s so much more you can do. Ang ganda.”
Avel x Matteo currently has a pop-up store in ELJ Building inside the ABS-CBN compound in Quezon City. Another pop-up store will open soon in Uptown Center in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.
