Angrydobo (Made With Love) is a smashing success.

The restaurant is the business venture of Ryan Agoncillo and wife Judy Ann Santos, and is located in front of De La Salle University along Taft Avenue in Manila.

“Happy lang ako na happy si Juday, kasi iba ang energy niya sa kitchen, e,” Ryan says.

Judy Ann is the hands-on chef of Angrydobo.

“Ako, of course it’s, you know, the people behind the business naman really is my brother and my sister-in-law, so they’re the ones really running the show and me, I’m just happy that Judy Ann is blossoming as a chef.”

Ryan's brother Dondee Agoncillo and his wife Maloo are Ryan and Judy Ann's business partners at Angrydobo.

Since it opened last May, Angrydobo has had a long line of customers who all want to try Judy Ann's special adobo. Did Ryan expect this success?

“We knew that masarap yung Angrydobo. Ang nagulat kami, yung lakas ng response!

“Of course that’s very surprising, in a most pleasant manner. But ano, e, akala namin, in-overestimate na namin yung plans namin.

“Meaning halimbawa, nung first day na nag-open kami ang stocks namin, madami, pang-dalawang araw, pero the first day we opened, ubos agad!

“'Tapos nung mga susunod na araw, sabi namin, ‘O sige, gawin nating pang-apat na araw,' ubos pa rin,” Ryan says with a laugh.

“So, you know, I mean I’m not surprised na nasasarapan yung mga tao sa luto ng asawa ko, kasi confident naman ako dun sa sarap.

“Ang na-surprise ako na natutuwa ako yung dinadayo talaga siya.

“'Tapos, ngayon pa lang, ilang weeks pa lang kami, fourteen, fifteen weeks may mga loyalist na, 'tapos marami talagang naghahanap ng opportunity na makadalaw.

“In fact, marami na kaming in-adjust sa systems namin para ma-accommodate talaga yung maraming tao.

“And we recently introduced the take-outs, kasi matagal inaral yung take out, e.

“Para high quality pa rin, and maganda yung response ng tao because, iyon nga, maliit naman kasi yung restaurant namin talaga, we only seat a maximum of 37 people, at a time.

“So parang… hindi ko naman pinagdudahan yung sarap ng luto ng asawa ko, nagulat lang ako sa tindi ng response.”

PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) spoke to Ryan last September 7, Saturday, in Batangas during the shoot of Judy Ann's online cooking show, Judy Ann's Kitchen.

HOW ANGRYDOBO WAS BORN

A lovers' quarrel was the inspiration behind the now-famous Angrydobo recipe.

Fourteen years ago, while they were in the U.S., Judy Ann and Ryan had a misunderstanding.

But because Judy Ann promised that she would cook adobo for their friends who were also in the U.S. that time, even if they were still fighting, Ryan bought the ingredients she needed. He gave them to her and went to bed without a word, leaving Judy Ann as she cooked in the kitchen.

When he woke up the next morning, Judy Ann was still cooking. Ryan sat at the table, and Judy Ann silently served him a warm bowl of rice topped with adobo before going to bed herself.

And that was how the delicious Angrydobo was born!

Today, the restaurant's menu offers appetizers Angrydobo Nachos Fully Loaded and Cheesy Sweet Potato Fries. For the main course, one can choose among Angrydobo Classic, Angrydobo Chicken, Angrydobo Shortribs, and Angrydobo Sardines with Egg. Those with a sweet tooth can cap off the meal with Dark Chocolate Champsicle or White Chocolate Champsicle for dessert.

For drinks, Angrydobo has Tamarind Iced Tea and Green Mango Shake on the menu.

The story of Angrydobo can be found in Ryan's Instagram post dated February 25, 2019, and is also printed on the wall and menu of the restaurant.
