Side hustles are a usual occurrence not just for the common folk, but even among celebrities as well.
Filipino actress-comedian Mosang, or Maria Alilia Bagio off-screen, found another income stream 14 years ago.
On October 9, 2023. her food-business train was featured by Susan Enriquez on GMA-7's Pera Paraan.

In the show, Mosang explained the concept of her karinderya, Elcep's Budbod, located in Bukidnon St., Brgy. Ramon Magsaysay, Bago Bantay, Quezon City.
"Alam niyo na, pag karinderya, pagkain ng masa," she began.
"Ang tinitinda ko dito ay yung tinatawag naming budbod. Actually, it's rice toppings na iba-iba.
"Puwede ka maglagay ng kung anong gusto mong topping sa ibabaw. Pero sa amin mainly is yung maskara ng baboy [pig face].
"Tapos puwede mong lagyan ng tocino, puwede mong lagyan ng maling, puwede mong lagyan ng hotdog, puwede mong lagyan ng tapa.
"Kung anong gusto mong i-topping, bahala ka."

HOW IT HAPPENED
According to the show, budbod—which was coined from 'budboran' or 'sprinkle' in English—is said to originate from the province of Rizal.
While this fried-rice meal has been around for decades, Mosang recalled, "Itong budbod ay na-discover ko mga way back 2011 pa.
"Nung tinayo ko itong tindahan noong mga 2009 something, wala pa kami talagang signature dish.
"So dito sa Bago Bantay, pag nilakad mo yung buong Bago Bantay, marami ditong karinderya, e.
"Nung nagsimula ako, talagang suntok sa buwan, sabi ko, 'Ay ang daming nagtitinda ng ulam.'"
Mosang then decided to make budbod the star of her eatery, and it has been that way for 12 consecutive years.

LESSONS LEARNED
For the Pepito Manaloto mainstay, embarking on her first business venture served as a well-thought-out Plan B for a potential future where she might no longer have acting roles.
She candidly admitted, "Siyempre sa isang katulad ko na matagal na sa industriya ng pag-arte, lagi ko iniisip, 'Anong fallback ko? What if hindi na ako makaarte?'
"And then iniisip ko rin, sabi ko parang I have relatives na walang work, so siyempre, para makatulong din naman at the same time.
"Saka ako para sa sarili ko, in times na hindi ko na kakayanin, meron akong natitirang business na puwede akong kumita pa," she explained.
Finding similarities between her two jobs, she related, "Sa pag-aartista, kailangan mabilis kang mag-memorize ng mga bagay-bagay.
"Marunong kong makisama sa tao. Ganoon din sa pagtitinda."
She advised, "Kailangan mo ng disiplina. Kailangan mo ng commitment.
"Sa pagpatayo ng business, kailangan mo ng disiplina in terms of paghawak ng pera.
"Huwag kang bulagsak. Kung kumita ka, huwag mong ubusin. Magtabi ka."

SUCCESS STORY
The karinderya consumes a sack of rice and two dozen trays of eggs daily.
With 10 employees onboard, Mosang disclosed earning about PHP100,000 in a month.
More importantly, it was able to send Mosang's relatives to school.
"One of the best things na nagawa nito, maraming napaaral nito," she shared.
Among them is Jumel Aaron Bagio, who related, "Nagwo-work ako dito since 2017 po, bago pa lang po ako mag senior high.
"Gawa po nun, naka-graduate po ako ng Food Service Management."
