Naging popular ang air fryers dahil sa notion na mas healthy ang ipinipritong pagkain dito.

Hindi kasi ginagamitan ng mantika—o kung meron man ay sobrang konti lang.

Gayunpaman, batay sa artikulong nalathala sa news website na Times of India last August 22, 2025, ipinaalala ng California-based gastroenterologist na si ni Dr. Saurabh Sethi na ang health benefits na hatid ng air fryers ay depende kung paano gagamitin ang naturang cooking appliance.

Bagama’t nire-reduce nito ang paggamit ng oil, hindi nangangahulugan na ang nilutong pagkain mula rito ay healthy—lalo na ang processed foods o mga pagkaing may inflammatory oils.

Ang pagpili sa tamang oil, pag-iwas na masunog ang pagkain, hindi paggamit ng lumang mantika, at pagpili ng ligtas na air fryer ay may malaking magagawa sa kalusugan.

THE MISCONCEPTION ABOUT FOOD COOKED IN AIR FRYERS

Ang air fryers ay naging kitchen staple.

Isipin mo nga naman na kumakain ka ng golden French fries o fried chicken nang wala ni gapatak na mantika.

Pero may gustong linawin si Dr. Sethi.

“If you're still using ultra-processed frozen snacks or inflammatory refined seed oils, you're not doing your gut any favors.

“A little avocado oil or ghee actually helps absorb nutrients like vitamins A, D, E, and K.

“Just skip the refined seed oils, they're high in omega-6s and can fuel inflammation if overused.”

WHAT TO AVOID WHEN COOKING VEGETABLES IN THE AIR FRYER

Maaaring magluto ng kahit anong vegetable sa air fryer.

Pero hindi lahat ay pare-pareho ang response kapag dito niluto.

Halimbawa, ang leafy greens at maging ang cruciferous vegetables na kinabibilangan ng broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, kale, at Brussels sprouts ay madaling masunog.

Paalala ng gastroenterologist, ang sunog na pagkain ay nagiging sanhi ng inflammation.

Ang tip niya: “Use a light coat of oil and parchment paper or silicone liner to crisp, not char.”

TIPS WHEN BUYING AIR FRYERS

Maraming air fryers sa merkado.

Kung bibili, ipinapayo naman ng YouTube channel na Techplainer na piliin ang unit na food-grade silicone na BPA-free, FDA-approved, at may heat resistance na hanggang 480 degrees Fahrenheit o 248.889 degrees Celcius.

Ang air fryer na may ganitong katangian ay reusable, walang microplastics at PFAS, dyes, and coatings.

Ang PFAS ay tumutugon sa “per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances,” a large group of human-made chemicals known for their ability to repel grease, stains, and water.

Ang ilang air fryers ay may Teflon (PTFE)-coated baskets na maaaring mag-degrade sa mataas na temperatura, kaya pumili ng unit na may ceramic-coated o kaya ay stainless-steel interiors.

Mas matibay ito, mas healthy pa.

Pagbibigay-diin naman ni Dr. Sethi: “The air fryer can be a gut-friendly game changer, if you use it right.”

DO NOT REUSE THE SAME OIL

Kung magpiprito naman ng pagkain gamit ang tradisyunal na lutuan gaya ng kawali, ipinapayo gastroenterologist na huwag gagamit ng mantikang napagprituhan na.

Paliwanag niya: “Old oil plus high heat equals oxidized fats.

“That means harmful byproducts your liver and gut don’t love.”

Aniya, kapag nagprito ng pagkain sa tradisyunal na paraan, linisin agad ang pinagprituhang kawali at i-dispose nang maayos ang ginamit na oil.
