WHAT IS VOLVULUS?
"Enlarged colon; abdominal adhesions that develop after surgery, injury, or infection; diseases of the large intestines; colon is not attached to the abdominal wall; narrow connection at the base of the colon; and chronic constipation."
Common na sakit daw ito sa mga lalaking over 60 years old.
Ayon sa November 2018 issue ng Journal of Surguical Case Reports, "A clinical condition involving elongation and dilation of the colon known as dolichocolon is also considered a risk factor for volvulus. This condition is most commonly seen in elderly people."
Ang mga sanggol naman na merong volvulus ay posibleng magkaroon ng "sudden bouts of crying, drawing in legs as if in pain, weakness, and rapid heart rate and breathing."
WHAT IS THE TREATMENT FOR VOLVuLUS?
Ang sakit na ito ay nangangailangan ng immediate treatment, at kadalasan, tanging surgery lang ang paraan para mai-correct ito.
Ang mga sumusunod ay bahagi ng preparations ng pasyente bago sumailalim sa surgery:
1. Blood and stool tests
2. Barium X-rays for the upper or lower abdominal tract
3. Computed tomography (CT) scans
4. Flexible sigmoidoscopy
The purpose of the surgery is to "detangle or untwist the intestine."
Minsan ay kinakailangang tanggalin ang appendix kapag in the process ay na-dislocate ito.
Mainam na maisugod kaagad sa ospital ang pasyente dahil kung hindi maagapan, maaaring mauwi ito sa kumplikasyon gaya ng sepsis o severe infection of the blood, "malabsorption disorder called short bowel syndrome, which results from the lack of small intestine" o infection of the abdomen known as secondary peritonitis.
Ayon pa rin sa Medical News Today, "volvulus can be life-threatening if not treated promptly because it can lead to the death of the blood-starved tissue and tearing of the intestinal wall."
UPDATE ON YNNA'S CONDITION
As of 9:50 p.m., sinabi ni Nadia sa comments section ng kanyang Facebook post na ang surgery ay "moved to a later time."
Dagdag pa niya, "More tests ongoing..."
Bandang alas tres ngayong araw, November 19, may good news si Nadia sa kanyang Facebook account:
"After praying over Ynna, Dra walks in and delivers the good news. “I will keep you for another 2 days just to make sure we cover all your tests. Then you can go home na. NO SURGERY NEEDED!” Pain is now bearable and no meds needed. Hallelujah..."
