Maxene Magalona, 39, looked every bit the picture of wellness.

She attended the #8HourMovement event by Our Home and Uratex not as an actress, but as a yoga and meditation instructor and wellness advocate.

Clad in activewear, she turned heads at Greenhills Mall.

“I am now in a wellness state,” she told host Luane Dy.

Getting there started with a simple but decisive choice to turn her life around.

Maxene revealed: “I chose this path because I was super unwell. I experienced a time in my life where I was just so disconnected from myself.

“I was not well mentally, emotionally, physically.

“Alam mo yun, my sleep was not good.

“If you see that your sleep is not good, that is an indicator that there is something that is not in alignment.”

At that time, “I was only getting four to six hours of sleep,” she confessed.

And by sleep doctor standards, it should be “seven to nine hours.”

Dr. Jimmy Chang, head of the St. Luke's Comprehensive Sleep Disorders Center in Quezon City, was present at the event.

He reiterated the requirements for good sleep: “Correct timing, adequate amount, and good quality.”

HOW MAXENE MAGALONA FIXED HER SLEEP

The most helpful advice she received from her therapist was to reassess her lifestyle.

“The way we live determines the quality of our sleep,” the 39-year-old star stressed.

Once that realization set in, Maxene began building consistency into her routine—waking up at a set time, eating on schedule, and sleeping on time.

“I love having a daily routine. I stick to that daily routine.”

Next, she let go of a bad habit: checking her phone before going to sleep.

She explained: “Before going to bed, no screen time.

:The gadgets are so easy to reach. Nandiyan lang siya parati. And it becomes an unconscious habit.”

For falling asleep faster, she shared one simple tip: “Deep breathing.”

According to an article on Harvard Health’s website, this can help the body shift into a “calmer state.”

There are ways to do this properly, but the easiest is the “simple slow breathing.”

It can be done in two steps:

(1) Inhale slowly through your nose for four to five seconds.

(2) Exhale longer through your mouth or nose for six to eight seconds.

In short, exhale slightly longer than the inhale.

The result was holistic: she slept better, felt more stable emotionally, and reached an overall improved state of well-being.

“When I started changing my lifestyle, and practicing welnness, sobra na ako na-in love sa wellness lifestyle na ito.

“It has given me so many benefits. It improvel the quality of my life so much.”
