Weight loss conversations often revolve around workouts and meal plans.
Pau Pelaez wants to shift that discussion toward something many people neglect.
The beauty content creator and TikTok personality believes that sleep deserves more attention, especially for those who want to build healthier habits.
Her own experience taught her that staying up late affected far more than her energy levels.
In an exclusive interview with the PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) during TikTok Philippines' Own Your Beautiful: A Beauty Masterclass on July 8, 2026, Pau reflects on the habit that had the biggest impact on her transformation.
Since she also has polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), she became more aware of how sleep influenced her daily choices.
Pau says: "Ano po, since I have PCOS din po kasi, ano, huwag kayong magpuyat. Talaga.
"Kasi ako po kasi, lagi akong puyat. Well, di na po kasi maiiwasan. Lagi akong puyat.
"So I realized, once na puyat ako, ang sunod diyan is kumakain ako ng mga hindi ko naman need.
"Kahit na, like, cravings po, like sweets, parang may kain kasi nga wala akong energy. And yun yung kailangan ko.
"Parang yun yung na-realize ko na need na meron ako na I have eight hours of sleep and dapat consistent yung sleep ko."

WHY SLEEP BECAME HER STARTING POINT
Many people begin a fitness journey by changing what they eat or adding exercise to their routine.
Pau recommends looking at sleep first.
She noticed a pattern whenever she lacked enough rest.
Fatigue often pushed her to reach for food because she wanted a quick source of energy.
Cravings became much harder to manage under those circumstances.
For women, Pau also believes that sleep plays an important role in overall wellness.
When PEP.ph asked whether she would recommend changing sleeping habits before anything else, Pau answers without hesitation.
"Yes, oo. Una talaga nilang baguhin yung sleeping pattern nila.
"Kasi doon talaga, like, puyat ka? Maghahanap ka ng food.
"Wala kang energy? Hanap kang food.
"Puyat ka? Hanap kang food.
"Lahat ang food, kasi food is energy.
"Na parang siyempre puyat ka, alam mo yung ikakain na lang nang ikakain, which is bad.
"And also kasi, siyempre tayo girls, women, yung cortisol natin, talagang gumaganon talaga siya.
"Kaya sabi, all talaga sa sleep yon. Kaya kung mag-i-start kayo ng weight loss journey, sleep talaga."
Her advice highlights an experience that many people may recognize.
Long days and inconsistent sleeping schedules can influence food choices before anyone notices the pattern.
Pau learned that improving her rest helped her feel more prepared to make healthier decisions throughout the day.

CONSISTENCY STILL MAKES THE DIFFERENCE
Building healthier habits often requires patience.
Many people struggle with staying committed after the excitement of starting a new routine begins to fade.
Pau understands that challenge.
When PEP.ph asked what message she would like to share with those who find consistency difficult, her answer was direct.
"If you want that hard, work that hard."
The statement reflects the mindset that carried her throughout her transformation.
Progress does not depend on one perfect day.
It comes from showing up again after setbacks and continuing to work toward a personal goal.
Pau's story also serves as a reminder that every health journey looks different.
Some people focus on nutrition. Others build an exercise routine.
Her experience points to another habit that deserves attention.
Consistent sleep may support better decisions during the day and help create a stronger foundation for lasting lifestyle changes.
For anyone who has been wondering where to begin, Pau believes the answer could start the night before.
