How Derrick Monasterio made his transition from tween to hottie

Derrick Monasterio used to count his calories: "Pag lumampas sa 1,000 ako a day, bad trip na bad trip ako noon."


Have you seen Derrick Monasterio lately?

This former tween star, who entered showbiz via the youth-oriented show Tween Hearts, is now a hottie.

When PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) caught up with him during his album launch, he said it was a conscious decision to make himself more muscular so he could make the transition from teenybopper to more serious roles.

“Siguro noong first, nag-gym lang ako for my personal cause, kumbaga gusto ko lang pumayat.

“Pero lumaki ako, e. Nagkaroon ako ng muscle. Parang sige na nga, gawin ko na ito as part of my career.

“So ayun, effective naman, nabigyan naman ako ng covers," referring to his magazine pictorials.

He also had a topless scene in the afternoon series Hanggang Makita Kang Muli.

Derrick has also been keeping his Instagram followers updated with his workout routines.

How did he achieve his body goals?

Aside from going to the gym and playing basketball, Derrick has been more conscious of his diet.

He related, “I don’t eat rice. I eat a lot, pero I make sure that I burn them afterwards.

“So halimbawa marami akong nakain ngayon, so magba-basketball ako mamaya.

“Pero hindi ako nagra-rice, pero malakas ako sa sweets, mga chocolate, leche flan.”

The 20-year-old Kapuso said the two—diet and fitness—have to go hand in hand.

"Kung nagtataka sila bakit hindi gumaganda yung katawan nila, it’s probably because of their workout routine and siguro doon sa kinakain nila.

"Kasi yun yung pinaka-important, e.

"Like yung diet. Sabi nga, may blog akong nabasa na thirty percent gym, seventy percent diet.

"So yun talaga yung pinaka-key. Totoo yun, sa diet talaga."

These he learned last year before walking the ramp at the Cosmo Bachelor Bash.

"One time nga, dumating ako sa point noong nag-Cosmo ako. Dumating ako sa point na binibilang ko yung calories ng kinakain ko.

“Like tinitignan ko yung nutrition facts, pag lumampas sa 1,000 ako a day, bad trip na bad trip ako noon.”

He concluded, “Siguro gawin mo yun for like one month 'tapos work out, laki ng diperensya, promise.”
