For Piolo Pascual, working out has become a way of life.
Aside from the fact that it makes him look good, it also makes him feel good about his body.
"You are your own product," the 39-year-old matinee idol remarked during the press conference for Sun Life Philippine’s Sunpiology Run at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila, on October 11.
"It’s important to know that you are selling your own self, so you have to look good, you have to feel good.
"You always have to be prepared and always have to ready to fit in any role that will be given to you.”
But more than that, on a personal level, Piolo said he's also fully aware that he isn’t getting any younger.
He underlined, "You really have to be fit and, well, to really protect your future.
"I want to be able to live longer and enjoy the fruits of my labor as well.”
HEALTH IS WEALTH. Piolo’s fitness regimen is mix of discipline and knowing when to set his limitations.
"Listen to your body. You get to a point na mare-realize mo kung anong kailangan ng katawan mo because, at the same time, if you listen to your body, then vice versa, it will listen to you.
"Whatever you want it to feel or kapag umo-overweight ka na, alam mong you have to slow down on your diet.
"So mga gano’n lang. It’s all common sense. It’s all practical for me."
His lean physique is not solely due to triathlon and regular gym workouts.
"I drink a lot of water. I sleep a lot. Every time, I try to get at least six to eight hours of sleep.”
In terms of diet, he does not deprive himself. In fact, eating what he wants to eat is one of his motivations not to skip workouts.
"I eat whenever I wanna eat. Sometimes I eat before sleeping which is not good, but the next day, I work out right away or sweat it off.
"I’d like to eat every thing.
"For me, that’s the reward," which includes sweets that are not sugar-free.
"Boring 'yon, e!
"If I’m just gonna treat yourself to something sweet, go all the way!”
Most importantly, for Piolo, living healthy is also living clean.
As his piece of advice to the youth, the actor said, “Stay away from vices, obviously. We only got one life to live.
"Enjoy life, but know that to be able to train, to be able to do things, you also have to realize that your body is just one."
Piolo was also named one of the celebrity ambassadors for the newly-launched wellness community GoWell.
He was joined by (L-R) Rovilson Fernandez, Bubbles Paraiso, Tessa Prieto Valdes, and Jaymie Pizarro.
Inigo Pascual (rightmost) sang the community's theme song.
