Siobhan Thornton weighed around 245 pounds after giving birth to her daughter Tia three and a half years ago.
From size 16, she became size 22, which—along with her relationship that didn't work out—resulted in depression.
For a time, she wallowed in self-pity, and gorged on junk food and chocolates.
In her interview with Mirror, the 23-year-old mom admitted, "I used to avoid looking at myself."
The day she decided to pick up the pieces because she was on the verge of becoming diabetic, she went to the gym and got sick.
Then, she made gradual changes in her diet.
First, she removed the junk food. Next, she added two cups of green tea per day.
It was the latter that helped her lose the initial three stone or 40 pounds.
She continued, "I am certain that I lost the first three stone through drinking green tea alone.
"My metabolism just went through the roof, and I hadn't done much else.
"I was measuring my waist and it was getting smaller and smaller, and I wasn't doing any exercise."
HOW? Green tea is known for its EGCG (Epigallocatechin gallate), a substance that can boost metabolism.
According to AuthorityNutrition.com, "...it can help inhibit an enzyme that breaks down the hormone norepinephrine, which is used by the nervous system as a signal to the fat cells, telling them to break down fat."
One study claimed that it can burn an "extra 65 to 200 calories a day."
It also has caffeine, a stimulant which can aid fat burning and improve exercise performance.
In the case of Siobhan, she eventually added three-times-a-week workout to her routine, plus she started using vibration plate, which induces muscular contractions by sending waves of energy to the body when you stand on it, while watching TV.
Siobhan now weighs 133 pounds, and has reduced her Body Mass Index to half.
Most of all, she feels good about herself.
