Sunshine Cruz has been inspiring moms to take care of themselves, and live a healthier lifestyle.
Every workout selfie she uploads attracts positive comments, which are usually about her sexy figure.
Last Friday, November 17, the Wildflower star told PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) in an exclusive interview that staying fit has become an advocacy of sorts.
The actress went to Megaworld Lifestyle Malls' block screening of Justice League with her daughters Angelina, Samantha, and Chesca at the Uptown Mall in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.
Sunshine said, "I just want to inspire, of course, moms, na hindi dahil may mga anak na, na mag-let go na tayo.
"And that we can still be very healthy, and we have to be very healthy especially for the children so that we can take care of them."
This 40-year-old mom of three watches her weight, which shot up to over 15 pounds while working on Wildflower.
Her weight prior to the series was 120 pounds.
The Kapamilya star narrated, "Kasi si Nanay Camia naman sa Wildflower, I was thinking na okay lang kasi puro naman oversized na polo ang suot ko.
"Wala parang nag-let go lang ako, and I got shocked kasi 15 pounds na pala—118 to 120 pounds talaga yung timbang ko.
"And nung nagtimbang ulit ako, naging 135 to 136 pounds na.
"And all my clothes were not comfortable anymore and in denial pa ako that time.
"Sabi ko, 'Ano 'to umuurong ba yung mga damit ko? Yung labandera?' Ganun ako.
"'Tapos yung timbangan, 'pag nagtitimbang ako, sabi ko, 'Parang sira, e.'"
But the shocking truth was: "Talaga palang tumaba ako."
Sunshine instantly noticed the changes brought about by weight gain.
"So na-realize ko na it's not healthy, it's uncomfortable. Hindi na ako makakilos na pareho nung before.
"Having a hard time, maglalakad lang ako, hinihingal ako. Aakyat ng hagdan, hinihingal ako."
Since then, Sunshine has been working out regularly for the past three months.
She's now back to her ideal weight, and maintains her 25-inch waistline.
Her advice is to find an exercise routine that you will look forward to doing.
"I exercise three to four times a week, ano lang kahit less than an hour. I do spinning, boxing or Zumba kasi yun yung mga workouts na I enjoy most.
"I think it's really important na na-e-enjoy din natin yung mga workout na ginagawa natin."
With regard to her diet, "I eat mostly protein and less carbs pero every weekends, cheat days ko yun. So I eat what I've been craving for 'pag weekends."
Aside from these, Sunshine also noted the importance of keeping your focus.
"Kailangan lang talaga yung maging focused and yung priorities, and, at the same time, I owe it to myself, to be healthy.
"Not just to look good but to be healthy to take care of my kids as a single mom."
