Kapamilya star Kathryn Bernardo has grown up to be a lady of flair and style.
She's often seen sporting tops and dresses that bare her lean arms and well-defined abs.
That's because she started working out regularly since she took on the role of Malia in the primetime series La Luna Sangre.
The young star also worked hard to prepare for the recently concluded Bench Under the Stars underwear and fashion show where she walked the runway with reel and real love-team partner Daniel Padilla.
PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) interviewed Kathryn during her launch as Canon's latest ambassador for their EOS M100 camera last November 25, at the TriNoma Activity Center in Quezon City.
How to stay fit like Kathryn Bernardo? What's her the secret to her looking leaner at fitter these days?
"Actually, yung dati nakaka-work out ako regularly, medyo nabawasan ngayon kasi nga nakukuha yung buong weekdays ko for La Luna taping," she revealed.
"Pero ngayon kasi tina-try ko mag, yung [Ketogenic] diet?
"Tina-try ko siya with Pilates also, and [training] with Mama Kat.
"Tina-try ko siya pag may time isiksik talaga kahit once or twice a week. Especially before Bench. Grabe yung preparation na ginawa naming lahat and it was all worth it."
We also talked to Kath's trainer, Kathryn Geronimo-Garcia a.k.a. Mama Kat, who's also a core specialist, functional trainer, and a metabolic conditioning coach.
Mama Kat told PEP.ph she started training Kathryn in April 2017. After months of working out, she noticed improvements in Kath's overall physique.
"She got tight all over and got stronger because of the function circuits I designed for her," she said.
Mama Kat focused on workouts to give Kath leaner arms, shoulders, and abs.
"We train two to three times a week depending on her work load," she added.
Some of the exercises included in Mama Kat's "No Excuse Circuits" are body weight movements like planks, push ups, leg raises, pull ups, and dips. Kathryn also does burpees, lunges, squat jumps, star jumps, and band squats.
Mama Kat also allowed Kathryn to go on the Ketogenic diet to help her prep for Bench Under the Stars.
The Ketogenic diet is one that is high in fat, adequate in protein, and low in carbohydrates. It burns fats instead of carbs and converts them into fatty acids and ketone bodies, leading one to achieve the state of ketosis.
"I allowed [Kathryn] to go Keto in prep for Bench but a modified version," Mama Kat said.
"I asked her to adjust, meaning to add complex carbs when needed."
Complex carbs are considered the good carbs, because they contain fiber and starch, as opposed to simple carbs which are sugars.
Food containing complex carbs include grains, fiber-rich fruits like berries and bananas, and fiber-rich vegetables like carrots and broccoli.
Mama Kat however cautioned those who want to try the Ketogenic diet.
"Reminder for Keto is don't fall for it immediately," she said.
"Evaluate first if you are a candidate for it. Its not for everyone."
It is best to consult your doctor before starting in any type of diet.
