PEP YEARENDER 2017: What these stars did to be fabulous and fit!

All the hard work involved in exercising and eating right has paid off for Kathryn Bernardo.

Looking good is part of being a celebrity, but working at all hours can take a toll on one's body, which takes a toll on one's health.

So it's only right that stars pay attention.

This year, we saw several actresses take their body to the next level, and witnessed how, along with that, they changed their eating and workout habits.


This year marked the turning point in her fitness journey.

Inspired by her triathlete character in the soap Ikaw Lang ang Iibigin, and encouraged by her co-star Jake Cuenca, Kim started hitting the tracks and riding her bike in January.

In March, Kim participated in her first duathlon race, which saw her completing a 4-kilometer run, a 25-kilometer bike run, and another 4-kilometer run at the Eagle Ridge Golf and Country Club in Cavite.

The Kapamilya actress went on to finish one more duathlon race last May. She completed a 6-kilometer run, a 30-kilometer bike run, and another 3-kilometer run in Clark, Pampanga.

She has so far finished four half marathons, which involved running a distance of 21 kilometers.

Her latest medal was from the Iron Man 70.3 triathlon meet in Cebu City last August 6.

In an Instagram post after the event, Kim revealed that she had cramps during the race.

Her caption read: "After all the hirap (cramps + knee and leg injury) during the entire run course, I'm so proud of myself that I was able to finish the race and my main goal is to not let my team mates down."

The 27-year-old actress, who has always been on the lean side, now has a very toned body.

Kim flaunted the results of her hard work at the Bench Under the Stars denim and underwear show last November 18.

Faced with grueling action scenes for her role as she-wolf Malia in La Luna Sangre, Kathryn shaped up by working out with her trainer Kat Garcia back in April.

Kathryn did circuit training, which focused on her arms, shoulders, and abs.

The Kapamilya actress also did Pilates, which targets the body's core—abdomen, obliques, lower back, inner and outer thigh, butt, among others.

Her workout also included body weight movements like planks, burpees, and squats.

With her diet, Kath tried the Ketogenic diet, which is high in fat, adequate in protein, low in carbohydrates.

Despite a hectic schedule, the 21-year-old actress said she makes time for her workouts.

"Tina-try ko siya, pag may time, isiksik talaga kahit once or twice a week," she told (Philippine Entertainment Portal) in a previous interview.

This proved beneficial to the young star, as she bared her crop-top worthy abs at the Bench Under the Stars underwear and fashion show at SM Mall of Asia Arena in November.

The celebrity mom caused a stir on the internet when she posted on Instagram photos of her vacationing in the Maldives.

Denise sizzled in her bikini shots set amidst the tropical paradise, and got netizens asking how to achieve her hot momma bod.

Her answer: exercise and diet.

In an interview with, her fitness coach Arnold Aninion said they do strategic workouts that focus on her legs and glutes.

Some exercise movements included stiff-legged deadlifts, ballerina squats, and dumbbell lunges.

For her diet, Denise eats mainly chicken, fish, and vegetables. Her carb of choice is the root crop kamote.


The It's Showtime host and multi-hyphenate star had extra motivation to stay fit this year: walking down the aisle to marry her mon amour Erwan Heussaff.

Aside from running, weightlifting, and strength conditioning, Anne also went back to kickboxing to spice up her workout.

It also helped that she had to remain active while shooting for her most physically-challenging role yet, the main protagonist in Erik Matti's Buy Bust.

All of Anne's efforts were not in vain, as shown in this photo taken on the day she left for New Zealand, where she got married last November 12.

The actress admitted that her rumored beau Gerald Anderson helped her take the fitness path.

"Nag-e-exercise, tumatakbo ako araw-araw. Oo na-influence niya ako definitely," Bea told in a previous interview.

Aside from the constant exercise, Bea also improved her eating habits.

The actress has become a pesco-vegetarian, shunning away from meat and just eating vegetables, fish, and seafood.

But Bea said she still indulges in chocolates once in a while.

The acclaimed actress works out not just for her physical health but also for her mental health.

As she put it in one of her Instagram posts, "Did you know just a single session of exercise can have significant positive effects on your mood, stress levels, and brain function. It can help fight anxiety and depression, too!"

The mom of Thirdy, who's back in school finishing BS Psychology, also accompanies her workout posts with motivational words to inspire her followers.

"Note to Self : The best project you'll ever work on is you. Be better than you were yesterday," she wrote in one of her Instagram captions.


The young actress had a busy year. She finished two movies, Love You to the Stars and Back and Unexpectedly Yours, and did the teleserye A Love to Last which ran for several months.

Despite a packed schedule, Julia managed to squeeze in her workouts with trainer Bok Santos.

Planks, squats, and crunches helped tone Julia's glutes, arms, and core.

The public got a glimpse of the end-product: Julia's envy-worthy abs, when she walked the runway at Bench's 30th anniversary fashion show, Bench Under the Stars.

Julia gives in to her cravings from time to time.

Her love-team partner and rumored boyfriend, Joshua Garcia, revealed that she could finish a whole sansrival cake by herself.

Julia clarified, "That was after Bench [Under the Stars]."

It may seem like the Kapuso actress doesn't need to do anything to keep her figure slim, but the reality is quite the opposite.

Based on her posts on Instagram stories (which disappear after 24 hours), Lovi is always at the gym or the Pilates studio burning calories.

The 28-year-old actress even works out when she's abroad, running to get around the city, and turning to concrete stairs in place of a climbing machine.

Not a few were surprised when Erich revealed a sexier image this year.

It started with some bikini photos on Instagram, which Erich posted while they were shooting the 2017 Metro Manila Film Festival entry Siargao.

Set in the surfing capital of the Philippines, it was only fitting for the 27-year-old actress to bare her skin.

Erich had started training with coach Bok Santos back in March, with movements that targeted her legs, butt, and abs.
