Have you ever wondered who exactly is The Sexy Chef?
Between Barni and Rachel Alejandro, it is the actually the former who takes on this title as the diet food delivery service’s head chef.
And yes, the title comes with pressure.
“I’d be lying if there’s no pressure, 'no, kasi hindi naman puwedeng The ‘Siksik’ Chef. It’s really The Sexy Chef.
"We really do have to walk the talk,” Barni told PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) during the media launch of their third cookbook, 21 Days to a Sexier You, last February 2, at Victorino’s restaurant in Diliman, Quezon City.
But maintaining a slim figure was never just about living up to the title.
In fact, the primary reason why the Alejandro sisters put up their own diet food delivery service in the first place was because of a personal need.
Prior to eating healthy, Barni was very sickly.
She was also 20 pounds overweight.
The chef-turned-cookbook author recounted, “Actually started because of a personal need.
“I was very sickly and I used to be a preschool teacher, so I was exposed to the germs.
“You know, kids talaga, they carry a lot of germs. They always have a cold, they’re rubbing their nose, and as a preschool teacher with a very poor immune system, I was really getting sick all the time.
“I had the flu at least twice a month, I was always getting sick. So, my mom brought me to the States because she was actually getting worried…”
Barni wasn’t diagnosed with any sort of sickness, but was asked by the doctor, “What do you eat every day?”
It then dawned on Barni that her eating habits were the root cause of her weak immune system.
She continued, “I like to eat hot dog, fried rice, 'tapos nilalagayan ko pa ng seasoning!
“Favorite ko talaga with ketchup.
“'Tapos, ice cream, chips—I wasn’t getting the right nutrients to have a strong immune system.
“So basically, my doctor told me, ‘From now on, no more processed food. You have to learn how to cook fresh meals. Nothing too complicated, nothing that comes from a can.’”
Barni took the advice to heart and began to filter out junk food from her diet.
Because of this, she lost her excess 20 pounds in a span of eight months.
“Just a change in lifestyle.
“Removing all the processed meats, the junk food, and Rachel bought me healthy cook books to follow.”
From there, The Sexy Chef was born.
FINDING THE RIGHT DIET PLAN. Barni suggested two rules of thumb in finding the diet plan that works best for you.
Aside from considering your lifestyle and physical activities, go for a diet plan that still sits well with your food preferences.
She pointed out, “If you enjoy eating meat, then it’ll be difficult for you to go for a vegetarian diet.
“If you’re not a meat eater, the Keto diet may not work for you.”
Her second rule is to pick a diet plan that would make you feel good at the end of the day.
"Kasi malalaman mo naman, e, if you don’t feel good, e.
"You get dizzy, you get constipated—those are [some] of the side effects if you’re not on the right plan.
“Listen to your body. Listen to how your body responds.”
