Sheryl Cruz lost around around 20 to 25 pounds after adding hula hoops to her workout routine.

At 43, GMA-7 actress Sheryl Cruz doesn't seem to age. Her secret? A healthy lifestyle.

A quick look on her Instagram account shows Sheryl sharing videos of her workout routine, which includes Zumba and weighted hula hoops.

Zumba has always been her go-to workout, but last September, Sheryl decided to add hula hooping to her routine after filming an episode of the Kapuso network's travel show Road Trip.

She recalled, "Started [hula hooping] at the age of 7, it was fun learning it as a kid especially since I had formal dance lessons with Mrs. Vivian Tagle for Hawaiian, as well as Tahitian Dance, which I did at the Dominican School's Dance studio in San Juan.

"When my workload in showbiz/recording/school got more hectic in my teens, I slowly stopped doing hula hooping.

"'Til I did a reality TV show episode for Road Trip in Guimaras City with Manilyn Reynes and Tina Paner. They got me interested in hula hooping again."

Currently, Sheryl maintains her 26-inch waistline after losing around 20 to 25 pounds through hula-hooping, Zumba, and proper diet.

PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) learned more about her workout routine through an interview via Instagram messaging on Wednesday night, February 21.

Sheryl uses a 2.5-pound weighted hula hoop to help improve her core, and burn calories on specific areas.

The celebrity mom told PEP.ph, "I consider 'anything dance' an effective way to trim/slim down, especially when you are hula hooping and you are targeting certain areas in your body, example your mid-section, which you need to isolate and concentrate the impact of the hoop connecting and bouncing off in your abdomen.

"It's a matter of isolation in hula hooping. I concentrated mostly on my waist and hips area (as it is also a big help when you're doing Tahitian dancing)."

How long does it usually take for her to finish her hula hoop routine?

Sheryl answered, "I usually do hula hooping for 30 minutes. What gets me going are the songs in my playlist.

"If I get bored with the songs, I update the playlist with something else."
