Miss Universe-Philippines 2018 Catriona Gray makes sure she maintains a healthy diet and does regular exercise.

Newly-crowned Miss Universe Philippines 2018 Catriona Gray dominated last night’s Binibining Pilipinas coronation night.

The 24-year-old beauty queen wowed the judges and audience with her answer in the question and answer portion of the pageant.

She was asked about her message to the young women of war-stricken Marawi in Mindanao.

Part of Catriona’s answer was, “If we could get the women to stay strong and be that image of strength for the children and the people around them, then once the rebuilding is complete and is underway, the morale of the community will stay strong and high.”

Aside from winning the night's most coveted crown, she also took home five other special awards including Best in Long Gown, Best in Swimsuit, Pitoy Moreno Best in National Costume, Jag Denim Queen, and Miss Ever Bilena.

PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) had a chance to interview Catriona last January during the candidates’ courtesy call and makeup workshop with Ever Bilena.

Here's how Catriona prepared for the pageant in terms of her diet and exercise.

“I eat a lot of vegetables, and I don’t really eat a lot of sugar right now,” she told PEP.ph.

“Because it’s so easy when you’re busy to just snack on what’s convenient, but sometimes what’s convenient is not necessarily the healthiest things for you.

“I wanna have a lot of energy, I want my skin not to break out.”

The beauty queen, who loves to cook, makes her own food which helps in monitoring her food intake.

“It’s really [simple steps] like making my own baon. I cook my food, and lots of snacks definitely.

"I love to cook. Because you know exactly what’s going in your food. You can make it exactly how you like it.”

Catriona, who was also in the top 5 of Miss World 2016, also rotates her fitness routine to keep fit.

She said, “I’m doing a rotation of Pilates, strength, and cardio, just because I want to be in the best shape and have a lot of energy as well to go throughout the day.

“‘Cause it is two full months of events. So yeah, and I think changing up your routine helps you, like mentally also not to get bored.

"You’re always changing it up and keeping it interesting.”
