Luxury fragrance brand Diptyque Paris is buzzing online after its latest limited-edition release catches the attention of netizens—and triggers Pinoy humor.
On June 9, 2026, social media users began sharing Diptyque’s citronnelle (lemongrass) incense from its “Summer Water Garden” collection, with many pointing out its similarity to the common mosquito-repellent coil—or "katol"—widely used in Filipino households.
The brand, with headquarters in Paris, France, describes its citronnelle incense as “scented spirals” inspired by “the herbarium of herbs,” paired with an artisanal enameled porcelain incense holder designed to complement the set’s aesthetic.

But it’s the price point that got people really talking.
Based on Diptyque’s website, the citronnelle incense retails for EUR45 (around PHP3,196.98), while the porcelain holder goes for EUR140 (approximately PHP9,946.16).
Facebook user Harley Hadid, a Filipino, went viral after his post of the product, which gives its local price at PHP4,191.86.
In his caption, he wrote: “Taray ng Diptyque, nagbebenta ng kateaulle (PHP4,191.86) [emojis].”

His post quickly gained thousands of reactions, with fellow netizens jumping into the comments section to share witty takes and playful comparisons.
One user quipped, “Eau de Kateaulle,” while another joked, “coile dé mósquite [emoji].” A different commenter added, “Limang pisong katol vs. limang libong pisong [emoji] cateaulle [emoji].”

PEPsters, would you buy these?
