Cacai Mitra, Regine Velasquez’s sister, goes viral after receiving a nearly PHP95,000 electricity bill from Meralco.
On June 16, 2026, Cacai posted a photo of her latest bill on Facebook, showing PHP94,355.21 due for the period of May 8 to June 7, 2026.
The statement reflected a consumption of 5,920 kWh at an average rate of PHP15.94 per kWh.
Cacai said she had been careful with power usage at home, making the unexpectedly high bill all the more surprising.
In her post, the talent manager-concert producer wrote: “Ayoko na sana makisabay, pero mahimatay naman ako dito Meralco. Super conscious na nga ako sa gamit ng kuryente. Bahay lang po kami, hindi commercial building ”
MERALCO RESPONDS TO CACAI'S CONCERN
The post quickly drew widespread attention online.
In response, Meralco said it has already contacted Cacai to discuss the bill in detail.
In a report by GMA News, Meralco has issued a statement saying it had already reached out to Cacai to explain the details of her billing and consumption history.
According to Meralco, Cacai’s account is categorized as a high-load service, which typically applies to households or properties that consume larger amounts of electricity than average residential users.
“Ms. Cacai’s account is classified as a high-load service and there was no unusual surge in her consumption, which is also reflected in the historical chart in her bill,” the company said.
Meralco added that the consumption recorded during the billing period falls within her usual electricity usage pattern, especially when compared to previous months and the same period last year.
“The increase in her electricity usage during the period in question is consistent with her seasonal consumption pattern.
"The actual consumption remains within the normal range of her previous bills, both when compared with the preceding months and with the same period last year,” Meralco said.
The power distributor also noted that it is willing to conduct a technical inspection of Cacai's property to provide further clarity on the breakdown of her bill and address any remaining concerns.
