Heart Evangelista: "2016 is to be living as much as possible a normal life."

Love Marie Ongpauco-Escudero, also known as actress/TV host Heart Evangelista, recently put together two of her greatest passions in life, painting and fashion, and collaborated with fashion designer Mark Bumgarner for beautiful hand-painted dresses.

For the past 17 years, she's been known to many as Heart Evangelista, one of showbiz's brightest stars.

But  after her numerous successes as a painter, and becoming Mrs. Chiz Escudero last year, some people began calling her Love Marie Ongpauco-Escudero, the name she actually prefers.

Heart told PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) that 2016 will be all about Love Marie.

“So with this art scene, with me as Love Marie, I really feel na my life is a bit more normal and it’s therapeutic.

“And I feel that there’s something promising in what I’m doing. 2016 is to be living as much as possible a normal life.

“So much pressure rin around, especially with campaign.

“Siyempre hindi mo pa rin maiiwasan na nakaka-pressure yung lahat ng tao, everything’s magnified.”

Heart intends to create a distinct difference between her showbiz career and artistic pursuits.

She said, “Gusto ko i-separate ang pagiging artista ko sa pagiging artist ko.

“I think it’s unfair or redundant to be using your personality [as a celebrity] with your paintings.

“I want it to be disconnected this time. I chose this.

“I feel so cool, it just feels nice.

“It’s a different feeling from being in the movies or winning an award.

"I feel like starting all over again and it’s so fulfilling, so inspiring.

“It’s so scary but I’m using everything to build my stuff up and do more.

“I have so much more to give. It’s so exciting.”

She admitted that the transition from being a celebrity to becoming an artist is not that easy.

“It's harder because you’re judged.

“It’s harder because we are artistas, a kumakanta, a ngayon ganyan.

“So it was hard for me to separate the two, but slowly but surely.

“Basta magsipag ka, every year you do something new, I think I’ll get there.”

MBxLM. As a painter, Heart’s artworks have been featured on canvases, Hermès Birkin bags, and now, couture gowns in collaboration with fashion designer Mark Bumgarner.

On January 18, the two launched their 40-piece collection called Fashion Dresses with a Soul, at the Dusit Thani in Makati.

Trusting each other’s instinctive eye and perspective for beauty was the key to Heart and Mark’s admirable partnership.

Heart shared with a smile, “We both give each other freedom to do whatever we want.

“We have so much fun. Sobrang fun together na kahit medyo imposibleng gawin.

“With Mark, I would still give him the respect, ‘Is it okay if I put this in?’

“You can do whatever you want to do with it. And it’s the same with him.

“I guess also because we share big dreams. We think about it like it’s a bit impossible but we do it anyway and we push each other."

Mark added, “Both of us are really easygoing.

“You know, we don’t really give each other pressure so working together was such a breeze.”

And this collaboration will not be their first.

Heart said, “Definitely. We have so much to do."
