Isabel Oli-Prats is 33 weeks pregnant, and is anticipating the arrival of their first bundle of joy, Baby Feather.
A first-time mom, she described the whole experience "happy."
"Well, it’s my first, so everything is new," she told PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) and Manila Bulletin during her surprise baby shower at Le Jardin Manila in Bonifacio Global City in Taguig, last March 6.
"But okay naman, and it’s happy kahit na minsan hirap, pero happy lang talaga."
During her first trimester, Isabel was extra careful.
"Nung first two months, I didn’t know kasi nga na I was pregnant then.
"So nung medyo nag-bed rest ako, do'n ako natakot. Nung nalaman namin na I was pregnant, ingat na ingat ako with what I eat and going down the stairs or going up, sobrang bagal ko.
"Ingat na ingat talaga ako."
Much like most pregnancy stories, Isabel experienced many hormonal changes such as heightened sense of smell.
Once, she asked John to sleep on the floor because she couldn't take the smell of his bath soap.
Good thing, her husband has been very understanding.
"Nag-adjust talaga siya," Isabel said.
"He’s very patient sa lahat ng bagay, sobrang patient niya talaga.
"Sometimes, you can’t control your moods, iba pala talaga when your hormones strike. Wala na!
"Sobrang iba talaga, pero hindi niya ako pinapansin, I mean hindi niya ako pinapatulan.
"He really takes care of me."
In fact, because John's scent suddenly irritated her, he decided to change his brands for perfume, deodorant, and bath soap.
John interjected, "Well, yung journey kasi, it’s not easy pala especially for her. Lagi naman, e.
"Like dun nag-i-start yung conflict, kasi we guys, we don’t understand kasi hindi kami nakaka-feel.
"So yun yung advice ko sa lahat, be extra patient ka lang talaga.
"Kasi yun yung ginagawa niya, lahat. Hindi naman niya gusto yun, e.
"Ganun talaga yung mood swings, everything, yung hormones, you just have to be really patient."
TWO TIMES THE LOVE. When asked how her pregnancy has so far affected their marriage, Isabel mused that things have been pretty much the same.
"Same lang talaga," she said, glancing at John.
"Mas ano lang talaga kami ngayon. Iba pala talaga kapag married na kayo kasi parang you’re sure, ‘Ah, tayo na talaga forever.’
"Like, yung mag-boyfriend-girlfriend, parang, there’s really the fear of, ‘Nako, baka iwanan ako...' Ito talaga, you know it’s forever.
"Kaya mas sobrang... yung assurance talaga ng marriage, iba 'no?
"I mean, he’s sweet. He is loving. Pero ngayon, mas times two siya."
Do they already have an inkling on the kind of parents they will be?
John said, "I'll be the cool dad."
Isabel hoped to be the cool mom, but John quipped, "No, siya yung disciplined side."
She then said, "I'm her best friend."
Baby Feather is expected to be due in the middle of April.
