The grand Vic Sotto-Pauleen Luna nuptials lead the all-celebrity-wedding issue of YES! Magazine for April, which happens to be the anniversary month of the country’s leading entertainment magazine.
Vic “Bossing” Sotto—ace comedian, box-office star, top movie-TV producer, and much-sought-after endorser—married Pauleen “Poleng” Luna, his much younger co-host in the country’s longest-running noontime show Eat Bulaga, who’s also a versatile actress, last January 30, at St. James the Great Parish Church in Alabang, Muntinlupa City.
And YES! has 188 photos, gathered from official wedding photographer Oly Ruiz and from various sources, to relive the day Bossing and Poleng became husband and wife, as well as the days and memorable moments leading to their altar date.
Also, a surprisingly unguarded and engaging Bossing and the usually pert and bubbly Poleng gave YES! an exclusive and extensive interview, narrating their love story, their highs and lows en route to marriage, and their future plans as husband and wife.
"Napapatawa niya ako,” Vic said of his beloved.
"Ako ang comedian!” Pauleen agreed, teasingly.
They said that they are a positive couple who don’t let problems or public opinion break them apart. One such issue that has been raised and has caused some public discomfort is their wide disparity in age, since she’s 27 and he’s turning 62 this April.
“Wala namang issue sa amin ’yong age gap,” Pauleen pointed out.
But Vic’s children—Danica, Oyo, Vico, and Paulina—mattered so much to the actor-host that he went to great lengths to hear their side and give his side.
He related that he brought them to Boracay in April 2015 for his birthday celebration and for what he called a meeting, during which he recited something like an oratorical piece detailing his times with the mothers of his children.
Danica and Oyo are his children with his ex-wife Dina Bonnevie; Vico, with actress Coney Reyes; and Paulina, with former model Angela Luz.
“I know I’m a good provider, but siyempre di naman puro provide lang, e,” he said.
“It’s more than that, and I always say I’m fortunate to have understanding na mga bata. Walang malikot ang isip na, you know, ‘Ano ba ’yang tatay ko?’ Ano sila, cool.
"They respect me. That’s what I like. And they’ve shown their respect, and I have proven to myself how much they love and respect me…
"With the many things that went on in my life, napakita nila, na-prove nila, na nirerespeto nila ako as a father.”
Vic also respected his ladylove’s parents and gave them assurance about her welfare.
“In-assure niya kami na no one can touch Pauleen,” the actress’s mother, Chat Luna, said in an interview.
“Walang puwedeng umaway kahit sino. Siya raw magtatanggol. ’Tsaka ’wag daw kami mag-alala, hindi kami nawalan ng anak kundi mag-gain pa kami ng isa pang anak… siya ’yon.
"So nakita ko naman sa mata, e. You can feel. You can see.”
Bossing also revealed he had made his intention clear to himself from the start of their relationship more than four years ago.
“Ilang taon ako no’n, fifty-seven, fifty-eight?” he recalled. “Naka-mindset na ako. Pagdating ko ng mga sixty at we’re still okay, I will settle down na. If not, wala na.”
All along, Vic, whose first marriage had been annulled in 1992, had this public image of a successful man who didn’t think much about getting tied up again in a marital commitment.
The people around him see the difference in him now.
“His aura is much lighter now,” Pauleen said. “He’s always smiling, always laughing. ’Tapos, palagi akong kinikindatan. Alam mo ’yong ibig sabihin, happy siya talaga.”
As for herself, she beamed: “My happiness is making him happy.”
What would make the newlyweds happier is having their own children.
“I want twins!” she announced with glee. “Wala sa lahi nila, wala sa lahi namin. Pero malay mo. Nandiyan naman ang Diyos, e.”
Joining Vic and Pauleen in the celebrity-weddings special for the YES! April 2016 issue are four other pairs.
Actress Cristine Reyes tied the knot with former mixed martial arts fighter Ali Khatibi on Balesin Island in Quezon province.
Singer-actress Patricia Javier and her husband of 10 years, chiropractor Robert Walcher, renewed their marital vows at the Azure Urban Resort and Residences in Parañaque.
Actor Elvis Gutierrez, son of veteran actor Eddie Gutierrez and talent manager Annabelle Rama, exchanged “I do’s” with Alexa Uichico, the mother of his firstborn, at the Santuario de San Antonio Parish in Forbes Park, Makati.
Regal Films matriarch Mother Lily Monteverde’s grandson Keith Monteverde, a U.S.-based lawyer, married his Taiwanese sweetheart, Winni Wang, a doctor-pharmacist, on Boracay Island in Aklan province.
The YES! April 2016 issue is now available at newsstands and will soon be on Buqo, Zinio, and Apple Newsstand.
