Jewel Mische-Kurzer is now a married woman, and is committed to the church that she and her husband Alister Kurzer serve.
Her last stint on television was in 2013.
On February 28, 2015, she got married in Michigan.
More than a year later, the Starstruck alumna returned to the Philippines for a short vacation, and caught up with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal).
"It's better than we expected," Jewel said, recounting their first year as husband and wife.
"We were warned about it, yung mga friends namin na couples, na it’s gonna be hard, yung first year yung pinakamahirap or yung first two years.
"Okay naman kami, we’re doing well."
The couple met sometime in 2012, and got engaged in December 2013.
In Michigan, Jewel's life is more domesticated than her life had been in the Philippines.
She loves cooking for her husband, whose favorite Pinoy recipe is the Pinoy-style spaghetti.
On her life as an actress, Jewel doesn’t miss the limelight as much she misses the craft.
“The acting itself, working sa set…the people behind the scenes that I get to bond with and meet.”
In case she goes back to showbiz, will her husband allow her?
Alister said, “I told her that I’ll never get in the way of her dreams, so if that’s where she wanted to go…”
To this, Jewel quickly inserted, “You’re my dream already though!”
Is having a baby part of their immediate plan?
Jewel said, “About a year or two, we still have plans to dream some more, and we wanna go on missions together as a couple.”
Their shared views on faith brought them together.
Alister recalled, “One of the things that drew me to her was her activity with Operation Smile, I always wanted to go to those missions. I’d like to do more things like that.”
For Jewel, adding a baby early to the equation might hinder them from doing the things they want to accomplish.
“That would be hard, e.” she said. “I mean, kapag may baby, ibang level na.
“You have to focus naman sa children, di ba?
So ngayon, as husband and wife, we’re enjoying each other, still learning how to live with each other and to take care of each other.”
OLD FLAMES. Prior to her marriage, Jewel was romantically involved with Jason Abalos.
But her longest relationship was with Richard Gutierrez.
Jewel revealed that the later congratulated her when she got married.
“He sent me a message congratulating me after we [she and Alister] got married, actually, a few months already [after we got married].”
