Vice-President Leni Robredo’s journey from a widowed mother of three girls to the country’s second-highest elected official is chronicled in the August 2016 issue of YES! magazine.

In Naga City—where VP Leni was born and raised, and where she became a wife, a mother, and public servant—YES! covered a whole day of her activities as the outgoing congresswoman of Camarines Sur’s third district and as the faithful widow of the late Interior and Local Government Secretary Jesse Robredo.

YES! was also let inside the Robredo home in Naga and was given the rare opportunity to take photos of it.

In Metro Manila, a few days before Leni Robredo’s inauguration as vice-president, YES! had an exclusive photo shoot and interview with the top female leader of the land and her daughters Aika, Tricia, and Jillian.

VP Leni says that Jesse’s death in August 2012 changed her in more ways than one.

Now, she trusts herself, follows her instincts, and believes that “kung ano ang nandiyan, kung ano ’yong ’binibigay sa akin, parating may dahilan.”

First came the call to run as congresswoman to save the Liberal Party in her district.

Next came the invitation from the LP chairman, then President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III, to be the running mate of LP standard bearer and presidential candidate Manuel “Mar” Roxas II.

"Towards the end of the elections,” she recalls, “iniisip ko na bakit naman ako itutulak dito kung hindi naman ako mananalo? Hindi ko naman ito inambisyon."

VP Leni has also adopted an attitude that is totally relaxed and pretty cool.

"Kaya ’yong mga tira sa social media, wala nang effect sa akin," she says.

As her daughters put it, she’s all Zen.

The Robredo girls have a separate feature in the same issue.

"’Yong pinaka-contribution namin is, hindi namin siya bibigyan ng sakit ng ulo," middle child Tricia says.

The August issue also puts the spotlight on 2016 Cannes Film Festival Best Actress Jaclyn Jose, and on Solenn Heussaff’s rustic wedding to her longtime beau Nico Bolzico in her hometown, Britanny, France.

Plus, there are the YES! regular sections on Beauty (Kylie Padilla) and Style (Derrick Monasterio); Now Showing (Camp Sawi, with an all- star cast); Indie (Kusina, starring Judy Ann Santos); and Snaps (VP Leni’s Thanksgiving Party and the Star Magic Games 2016).
