Yael Yuzon on managing finances with wife Karylle: "If I'm gonna buy something, dinadaan ko sa kanya. Not because she asks me to, but because I want to."

Life with Karylle has been going great for Yael Yuzon.

The two share their love for music, and influence each other’s tastes.

The Sponge Cola vocalist told PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) during his band's renewal of contract with Universal Records last February 28, “We influence each other. Pareho naman kaming mga sponge, e.

"It would be a bad sign kung one-way lang ’yong influence. Ibig sabihin, meron isa sa amin hindi nag-a-adapt or natututo.

"Kunyari si Cardi B., nadiscover ko si Cardi B from my wife."

Cardi B. is a female American rapper who is known for her single "Bodak Yellow."

The married couple, who will be celebrating their fourth anniversary this March 21, also make it a point to spend time with each other despite their busy schedules.

“Kunyari today, she’s gonna be done with Showtime, 'tapos I’m gonna see her at the house.

"We’re very okay. We always see each other, we always talk."

In another interview, Yael and Karylle revealed how they manage their household. The man usually takes care of the cooking, the lady is in charge of cleaning.

What's their approach to budgeting?

Yael answered, “I’m a very generous person and so is Kay. Hindi kami nagbibilangan in that way.

"How we budget it is we have a pool of money, we buy stuff then we save stuff.”

Although they’re pretty independent, he makes that effort of informing his wife before he makes an important purchase.

“When I buy something kunyare when I make some money, if I'm gonna buy something, dinadaan ko sa kanya.

"Not because she asks me to, but because I want to. Kasi we’re like a team, e.

"Parang pag may bibilhin ako na item, idadaan ko muna. Even parang rubber shoes."

He also has other considerations before buying something.

“First of all if, I buy rubber shoes it takes up space so parang kelangan i-check ko muna yong space sa bahay.

"Kasi we’re simple living naman in terms of space. Ang shoes ang pinakangmalakas sa space. Like 10 pairs pa lang, andami na no'n, e.”

NEXT ALBUM. His band has just renewed its contract with Universal Records last week, with a new album expected to drop come June this year.

Yael elaborated, "So far, there are only two tracks that are out on Spotify right now. If you listen to those two songs, ’yong titles 'Kunwari' and 'Tempura,' parang ’yon na ’yong preview of what the sounds are gonna be like.

"With tidbits of surprises here and there—some tribal chanting, some electronic drums, layering, clapping, anthems and dramatic songs. And some remixes to follow courtesy of our remix buddies.”

His wife also has a contribution to the album.

“She has recorded. And perhaps there will be a song. Kasi hindi pa final. Hindi natin masabi kung okay na siya.”

Among the younger bands and new acts, they want to work with DJ Jessica Milner and young band She’s Only Sixteen.

The musician continued, “We’ve known these guys. We get along with them. Parang same sense of humor. Malaking bagay yong gano'n, e. Mas masaya ’yong hanging out with people you like.”

Believe it or not, he also wants to work with basketball player Kiefer Ravena.

“There’s a way of doing it. What if we sample ’yong body movements niya 'tapos gawin naming beats 'yon?

"Kunyari alam mo ’yong sound ng basketball jersey [na nagsa-scratch] sa mic 'tapos 'yong bola yong drum tapos ’yong steps nya yong snare."
