Former Pinoy Big Brother Unlimited housemate and engineer, Slater Young, has been offering valuable advice on home building to his social-media followers.

In a post shared on TikTok and Instagram on February 6, 2025, Slater provided tips for families planning to make their homes more child-friendly.

In the video, Slater specifically advised against horizontal railings, which, he said, are "climbing hazards and fall hazards."

The vertical railings are more ideal for areas like staircases, fences, balconies, and similar structures.

He explained, "I feel like we should stop designing our railings like this, horizontal railings, instead we should be doing it vertically.

"Now horizontal railings act and feel like ladders when it comes to children so it's easy to climb versus a vertical railing.

"This is especially critical when you're dealing with balconies and staircases."

Another tip from Slater: The space between the rails should not be big.

The dad of two said, "These have to be around four inches wide lang.

"Hindi kaya mapasok yung ulo ng bata and if they really try to squeeze it in, at least pag naka-vertical, mas mabilis tanggalin kesa sa horizontal."

Another key advantage of vertical railings is that they are "akyat-bahay proof."

Slater explained, "So, this doesn't only hold true for railings, we should also be doing this for our fences and our gates whenever applicable para iwas akyat-bahay."

Slater gained fame as the Big Winner of Pinoy Big Brother: Unlimited in 2012.

A little over two years after his victory, he chose to leave the entertainment industry and go back to his profession as a civil engineer.

In a 2022 interview with Karen Davila, Slater revealed his reasons for leaving showbiz.

He said, "Feeling ko wala talaga akong depth of that skill set or the talent to actually be able to act, and sing, and dance. Yung ganyan lang.

"Parang hindi ko kultura. Parang it's like against my grain or my upbringing. Nothing bad or good, it is just different."

After returning to Cebu, Slater founded his own company, LiteBlock.

He said, "After PBB when I decided ayaw ko na mag-artista, I wanted to do something different so that's with the whole construction thing. I was doing manufacturing of lightweight concrete, LiteBlock."

Currently, besides focusing on content creation, Slater is busy renovating their home, the Sky Pod, and is also involved in the contrustion of The Rise at Monterrazas, a luxury condominium development in Guadalupe, Cebu City.
