ABS-CBN actor Dominic Roque fulfills his need for speed through motorsports.

The 28-year-old actor has recently started joining Formula V1 racing competitions in the country.

Formula V1 racing is an intermediate-level motorsport where racers drive a single seat kit car built by West Racing Cars Co. Ltd. in Japan.

Dominic shared more details about his newfound passion in an interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) last March 22, Friday, at the Heineken Star Collection after-party held at Glass Space, Makati City.

He narrated, "I'm driving a Formula V1 now, it's like a next step from Vios Cup racing.

"A petroleum company got me to race for them so we had another year, this year, to race again."

Aside from Dominic, many local celebrities are also starting to join this motorsport including his fellow Kapamilya star Matteo Guiddicelli, whom he considers as one of his biggest competitions in the upcoming Formula V1 racing competition this May.

Dominic told PEP.ph, "It's gonna be more competitive and challenging kasi I heard that Matteo Guidicelli is entering Formula V1, which is a threat to me also.

"'Cause I've only been racing cars for only two years.

"Siyempre, napakagaling ni Matteo 'cause he came from go kart and nag-champion na siya doon many times.

"So ayun yung medyo challenging for me this year, na meron akong bagong kalaban."

Asked if he is worried about getting in an accident while racing, Dominic said this type of motorsport is a lot more safe than others.

He explained, "When it comes to car racing, it's a lot more safe that motorcycle.

"Kasi you have four wheels, and then you have a roll cage.

"Yung mga nangyayaring aksidente na malala, hindi naman ganun kalakas.

"As in minimal lang siya. Like it happened to me last year, naaksidente ako in one race, wasak yung kotse but I'm still okay.

"Hindi naman siya ganun kalala, hindi naman siya ganun ka-traumatic."

RACING

Dominic decided to explore different kinds of motorsports around four years ago.

He recalled, "I came from racing motorcycles... Nung ano lang, nung 2015, nag-race ako for a year.

"Grabe yung adrenaline na ibibigay but the risk of having an accident, masyadong mataas.

"Hindi siya fit sa trabaho ko, it's better to do something else na medyo close which is car racing.

"Mas safe siya kesa sa motor and almost the same adrenaline is there."

Dominic's passion for motorcycles also sparked his interest in joining racing competitions.

Dominic added, "Sobrang hilig ko kasi sa motor, e, so it started there.

"'Tapos nagtuloy-tuloy, iba-iba yung mga ginagawa ko.

"But you know, yung motorcycle nandiyan pa rin, lagi ko pa rin ginagawa.

"I go out of town or I ride aboad so it's still there."

ADRENALINE DRIVE

Dominic has always been into adrenaline-inducing activities.

Last February, he conquered another fear and tried solo bungee jumping for the first time.

He did it in Singapore while on a trip with fellow Kapamilya star Patrick Sugui.

Dominic narrated, "I'm into outdoor activities also. Lately, galing kami ni Patrick sa Singapore for Klook.

"We did a lot of activities there. And then ginawa ko yung bungee jumping for the first time."

Dominic admitted that his nerves got to him when he was about to jump.

The Kapamilya talent, however, managed to complete the activity.

"I thought it was gonna be easy but when I got there, sobrang grabe yung kaba.

"Ayoko na actually gawin, e, pero yung mga tao sa baba, yung mga camera man namin pinu-push ako na, 'Kaya mo 'yan! Kaya mo 'yan!'

"And then, nung nandun na ako, 'Bahala na!' 'Tapos bagsak na lang ako na ganun."

The experience definitely inspired him to try other activities of its kind.

He told PEP.ph, "After that jump, grabe yung ano ko, e, na I want to do a lot of outdoor activities.

"Gusto ko na mag-sky dive, gusto ko na talunin lahat ng bungee jump... because after that, yun yung ang sarap pala ng feeling niya."

PEP.ph went celebrity spotting at the Heineken Star Collection after-party.
