These four Bb. Pilipinas 2019 candidates—Samantha Bernardo, Emma Tiglao, Vickie Rushton, and Jessica Marasigan—all named their respective moms as the most beautiful person they know.
"If it wasn't for my mom, I wouldn't be the woman I am today," Jessica told PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) at the Ever Bilena event with Binibining Pilipinas last April 26.
Emma added, "Without my mom, I am not here standing."
What's the best life advice they got from their moms?
Samantha was the first to answer.
She said, "Follow you heart, but be sure to take your brain with you. That's what my mom would always say."
The Palawan native returns to Binibining Pilipinas after finishing second runner-up in last year's competition.
With renewed motivation for this year's Binibining Pilipinas, Samantha takes this advice to heart.
She continued, "Because I'm very passionate, I am a Scorpio.
"From my gymnastics career, from my folkdancing career, from pageants, she always says, 'Just do your best and God will do the rest. If it's really for you, then for you.
"'Always follow your heart, but be sure to take your brain with you because it has a purpose. That's why it's on top.'"
Emma, for her part, said her mom has always told her to "never, ever give up."
She continued, "That's why I joined Binibining Pilipinas again after five years.
"After all the experiences, the challenges, I am here now. I am more mature, more responsible, and never, ever give up on your dreams because when it's meant for you, it will be for you."
The perennial advice of Vickie's mom rings true for her career as a celebrity.
The Bb. Pilipinas 2018 first runner-up said, "For me naman, the best advice, siguro yung laging nakatatak sa akin yung don't compromise your values and your principles talaga.
"Kasi along the way, siyempre minsan naliligaw ka, nadi-distract ka. Don't compromise your values and principles talaga."
For Jessica, her mom always reminds her "to stay humble and empowered."
The beauty queen-performer said, "For me, my mom has always taught me to stay strong and always remain humble and true to yourself. Remember where your roots are from and just to stay humble and empowered."
