Bea Alonzo speaks good English, is well-spoken, and one more proof that becoming all that is not always learned in school.
The 33-year-old Kapamilya star said she did not really grow up speaking in English in their household, even though she's part-British.
Bea told PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal), "Buong pamilya naman po namin Tagalog nagsasalita."
The One More Chance actress then revealed that for the longest time, she has always been self-conscious about not being able to finish college.
Bea said, "I didn't go to college. Yung education ko po hanggang second-year high school lang and then home-schooled na ng third year and fourth year.
"Actually, yung education ko is my number one insecurity, na not having the privilege to go to college."
Bea was 13 when she became a member of the Star Circle Batch 10, and began working long hours as a talent at ABS-CBN. B
At that time, she got busy working on several TV projects K2BU, Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay, and ASAP.
She explained, "Kasi nung time na yun, di ba, wala pang cut-off? So wala talagang oras.
"Not that I am making excuses, pero sa totoo lang, nung nagkaroon na ng cut-off, puwede naman ako nag-college pa pero I didn't.
"I make sure na I educate myself through reading books, watching documentaries.
"Initiative din kasi yun yung insecurity ko, e. Ayoko maging tanga, so ayun.
"Yung ano naman pag-e-English, somehow, I try to watch a lot of, siyempre, yung mga English titles to educate myself.
"And to make myself feel comfortable in speaking in English kasi, siyempre, sa trabaho namin.
"Halimbawa si Bobbie, yung character ko sa Four Sisters and a Wedding, Inglisera siya.
"Halimbawa kung may binabasa akong libro 'tapos there's a word that I do not understand at hindi ko siya ginu-Google, baka hindi din ako naging komportable gumawa ng ganung klaseng role.
"I don't want to limit myself into just doing roles that speak Tagalog kasi trabaho din ng artista na mag-research, na i-improve yung sarili nila."
Wisecracking, she added, "At siyempre, kasi maarte ako. Gusto ko mukha akong nag-i-English! Char!"'
PEP.ph spoke with Bea for this exclusive via Zoom last Thursday, February 11, 2021.

BEA mulls hosting gigs
Currently, Bea gets more practice speaking in English through her vlog.
"So kapag Tagalog lahat, hindi nila naiintindihan. So I try to also adjust for them. Pero dahil hindi naman puwedeng tuluy-tuloy yung English so Taglish na lang."
Bea named her best friend Dimples Romana as the person she wants most to emulate for her eloquence.
She said, "Si Dimples is very articulate. She's very smart... idol ko yun, e, sa pagsasalita.
"Gusto ko ganun ako magsalita lalo na kung magho-host ako."
Bea has been brushing up on her newly acquired hosting skill on ASAP, the Kapamilya network's Sunday variety show.
She volunteered she's now more open to doing hosting gigs, "I have been thinking about it kasi dahil din sa vlog ko.
"Parang mas nagiging comfortable na ako to talk to the camera. Dati kasi hindi, e.
"Yung training ko laging to pretend, like there is no camera there, as if hindi nag-e-exist yung camera kasi umaarte ka, e.
"So every time I face the front of the camera, nara-rattle ako. Parang hindi ako sanay. Kasi di ba, trained ka na kunyare walang camera.
"But then, ngayon, nate-train na ako humarap sa camera and parang nae-enjoy ko na. Kasi yung YouTube channel ko para siyang lifestyle show, so nae-enjoy ko siya.
"Sabi ko nga siguro gusto ko na tumanggap ng lifestyle show or talk show, siguro magiging open na ako to doing one. Dati hindi, natatakot ako."
