After almost two years of dating virtually, bemedalled athlete Carlos Edriel “Caloy” Yulo and his girlfriend Chloe Anjeleigh finally met in person for the first time at the 31st Vietnam Southeast Asian Games.
In an exclusive interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) at the red-carpet homecoming for the gymnast, Carlos explained that his long-distance relationship (LDR) with Chloe has never raised any issues between them.
While a lot of people are pessimistic about the thought of being in an LDR, Carlos and Chloe are comfortable with the set-up and even prove how manageable it is.

Carlos said, “Nagwo-work po kami that way. Busy din po siya, may ginagawa siya and busy ako, may ginagawa ako.”
“Match yung dream namin like sa yung future. Ganun yung gusto naming…kahit ganito muna yung set-up namin, wala namang problema,” he added.
As important as it is for the 22-year-old gymnast to be in sync with his girlfriend about their future, he also values how Chloe respects each other's personal boundaries: “Supportive din siya sa time ko and binibigyan niya ako ng space like most of the time."
He elaborated, “Naiintindihan niya kung ano ang pagiging atleta ko po, at naiintindihan ko naman po kung ano yung, kung ano po yung sa kanya.
"Kasi like nursing din po, then student pa po siya, then nag wo-work din po siya, and mina-manage niya din po yung sarili niya, like wala na po siya sa bahay nila.”
“Nakaka-proud po yung ganun po.”

Held at the Heritage Hotel, the homecoming event was also a belated victory party for the Philippine national gymnastics teams. It ended with a karaoke portion where guests were invited to take the stage and sing.
After VIPs and members of the men’s national gymnastics team took a turn at the mic, Chloe treated the attendees to a sweet serenade for her beau, while holding his hand tightly. The 20-year-old digital creator showcased her strong vocals with her rendition of the song “Ikaw Nga” by Michael Pangilinan.
The couple is perfectly happy with where they are now.
Just as Carlos is grateful that he found a thoughtful girlfriend in Chloe, the Filipino-Australian YouTube vlogger is also all praises for the efforts Carlos has shown her throughout their two-year relationship.
Chloe revealed that while it's not necessary to send her presents frequently, she eventually came to learn and understand that gift-giving is the national gymnast's love language.
"Mahal, bilhan kita ng ganyan, ng ganito," she recounted.
She also cited how malambing Carlos can get when they're together, as she said, "'Mahal, come here mahal,' and nagta-touch po siya palagi."
Chloe is returning home to Melbourne, Australia on June 30, 2022.
Carlos, on the other hand, is set to fly to Tokyo to resume his training on June 23.
This means the couple will be celebrating their second anniversary just like how they're accustomed to: apart.
