Aga Muhlach has always been reserved about certain aspects of his highly publicized life as a celebrity.
This was evident during the "First and Last" segment of his PEP Live episode on January 25, 2024.
During the interview, PEP.ph's Deputy Managing Editor Rachelle Siazon inquired about the most recent gifts he had given to himself.
Aga seemed flummoxed by the question, but eventually he recalled buying himself a watch.
He told PEP.ph, "Wala namang job well done. Parang feeling ko lang, 'Bakit naman hindi?
"Bumili ako ng relo. Hindi po ako kolektor, mahilig lang po ako sa gamit. But, yes, I bought a watch."
Aga was just as hesitant to answer when asked about the "last gift" he gave his wife, Charlene Gonzalez.
And when he finally did, it was quite a revelation.
He said, "Hindi ko rin puwede sabihin! Nakakahiya, parang masyado siyang bongga.
"Kaya nga hindi ako nagpo-post-post ng mga bagay-bagay, para naka-ano lang, secret lang. But, yeah, I gave her something."
Dropping some hints, The Ikaw Pa Rin Ang Pipiliin Ko leading man shared, "... something for her, but makikinabang kami rin.
"Alam mo yun, parang pag may nagustuhan kang relo, bibigyan mo siya ng relo... reregaluhan ka rin niya ng relo."
He later added, "It's a material thing but the fact na named after her, parang ganun."
HOW CHARLENE HANDLES MONEY
More revelation from Aga pictured Charlene to be an economizer, meaning, in his words, "Very practical, meaning hindi magtatapon ng pera iyan.
"Madaming pera asawa ko. Mas ano sa akin yun, mahilig mag-save yun, mag-invest yun. Okay, okay siya sa akin."
He recalled a particular time during one of their trips abroad when they were doing some shopping
"We don't really shop, hindi kami shopping na tao. But we went around and she wanted something."
Aga offered to buy it for her but she refused.
"She goes, 'No!' Kasi ayaw niya akong gumagastos, e. Kasi alam niya magastos kasi ako kaya... kumbaga sinasabi niya sa akin, 'Magtipid ka... Matuto ka magtipid.'"
According to Aga, Charlene was never into brands and would buy a piece or two luxury items, but only if she could actually use them.
"She's a very simple lady and she's not into... hindi siya yung ma-ganun.
"She has her own things, but she takes care of them.
"Parang ang bag niya, bibili siya ng dalawang bag, yung two bags na yun, gagamitin niya talaga yun.
"It will last her three, four years until she changes it.
"Hindi siya yung bibili ng expensive kasi branded, yung ganun.... tapos gagamitin niya, wala namang masama dun.
"Yung bag na gusto niya, hahanapin niya yun, pag magagamit niya, bibilhin niya.
"Pag hindi niya kayang gamitin, alam niyang magagamit lang once or twice, she won't buy it. One hundred percent!"
SECRET TO LONG-LASTING RELATIONSHIP
Meanwhile, a kilig moment occurred when Aga responded to Rachelle's question about what he and his wife do first thing in the morning after waking up.
Their routine? Simply checking up on each other.
Aga stressed that such a simple act has meant a great deal in their relationship.
"[I tell her], 'Good morning!' Check on her. Every day, I check on her. And we do coffee, always.
"Kung wala ako gagawin, we're gonna [have] coffee from... it's either we wake up... if I don't play golf, basta parati kaming sabay kami tumatayo. Parati.
"Minsan, pag mauuna siyang gumising, she won't leave the bed until I wake up...
"And then I wake up or pag ako I wake up or gigising, hahawakan ko lang siya, iche-check ko lang, hawak ko lang na ganun, andiyan siya.
"And then sasabihin niya, 'Are you up?' Sabi ko, 'Yeah!' 'Okay, let's go!' For the past 23 years ganito kami.
"Sa 23 years, iyang coffee na iyan... pagdating sa gabi, 'Are you sleepy?' 'Bakit inaantok ka na?' 'Bakit ako hindi pa?' 'Teka muna, huwag ka muna matulog,' parang ganun. Masaya, masaya ako. Masaya."
