The Philippines is currently experiencing dangerously high heat indices as the hot, dry season reaches its peak, with many areas falling under the “Danger” category (42°C to 51°C).
On May 9, 2026, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported that at least 28 areas across the country are expected to endure sweltering conditions.
In Metro Manila, both NAIA in Pasay City and Science Garden in Quezon City recorded heat indices of 42°C.
Meanwhile, even higher heat index readings of up to 44°C are forecast in several provinces, including Laoag (Ilocos Norte), Camiling (Tarlac), Sangley Point (Cavite), Cuyo (Palawan), Roxas City (Capiz), and Dumangas (Iloilo).
With this level of heat, it’s not just people who are at risk—our pets, especially dogs and cats, are just as vulnerable.
Extreme heat can put pets at risk of heatstroke, dehydration, and even sunburn. Unlike humans, dogs and cats do not sweat in the same way people do and mainly rely on panting to cool themselves down. They are more susceptible to overheating, especially in hot and humid conditions.
As pet owners, it’s important to watch for warning signs such as excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, vomiting, or disorientation.
More importantly, prevention is key.
Ensuring your pets stay cool, hydrated, and comfortable should be a top priority, hence, PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) rounded up some affordable finds to help address this concern.
