It's been more than 24 hours since host Steve Harvey's blunder at the Miss Universe pageant happened, but social media have not ceased from showing more blunders.
With more than 80 countries joining the contest, and 6.2 million people watching coronation night on TV, netizens indeed had a field day.
Let's start with the things we wish people shouldn't have done or said after Harvey's "human error."
15. Bashing was expected, but bashers from Vietnam?
This was kind of baffling since Vietnam and Philippines are both from the Southeast Asian region, and Miss Vietnam 2015 Pham Huong was one of Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach's roommates.
Hours after the blunder, these were just five of the numerous comments posted by Vietnamese people on the Facebook page of Miss Universe:
Miss philipin too old and ugly. Reason she received the crown because she is girlfriend philipin's president
Phi-lp-pin will die
She didn't deserve this crown :))
The bad Miss Universe everrr!
The result: Philippines vs. Vietnam word war.
Quite unnecessary, really!
14. Bashers making a big fuss out of Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez Arevalo's recent Instagram posts.
Just let her be...Wala munang basagan ng trip.
Remember, she was also a victim.
But let's hope she'll move on soon, accept her defeat, and finally congratulate Pia because that's really the graceful way to do it.
13. The fans trying to edit the winner's name on Wikipedia
Yup, this apparently happened.
The culprits, most likely, are supporters of Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez Arevalo.
Editors of the free-content online encyclopedia were quick to take action yesterday, December 21, by putting out a series of notes, one of which reads:
"Different reliable sources show different winners for this contest. The final winner is Miss Philippines, Pia Wurtzbach, according to this report, Mistake leads to bizarre ending on Miss Universe pageant. Please do not change it back to Miss Colombia..."
12. “Give Miss Universe Colombia back her crown”
Naturally, Colombians were so upset that they created an online petition to give the crown back to Miss Colombia. At press time, more than 30,000 supporters signed it.
On Twitter, the hashtag #Lacoronaserespeta—meaning, "the crown must be respected"—trended last Monday.
There's nothing wrong with being upset.
But to use the word "stolen" on social media platforms?
Last time we checked the meaning of the word, several dictionaries defined it as, "to take [the property of another or others] without permission or right, especially secretly or by force."
11. Donald Trump's suggestion
"What I would do is make them a co-winner. That would be very cool," he told Matt Lauer on the Today show.
That was very, very insensitive and careless comment. Very, very unfair too for the real winner, Miss Philippines Pia Wurtzbach.
It was fortunate Trump had sold the Miss Universe franchise six months ago.
1o. Miss India's interview
As reported by ZeeeNewsIndia.com, the candidate had charged the Miss Universe contest of being "biased," and that there was a "diplomatic pressure on the judges" to announce Pia's name because the pageant next year will be held in the Philippines.
Miss India also alleged that Miss Colombia knew about Harvey's blunder.
Wow, did she win Best Story? Oh wait, did she join a beauty pageant or a writing contest?
9. Miss Germany's interview
To say, "I am not happy with the result..." thrice, okay, we get it, we get it, we get it.
To state, "No one of us voted for Philippines"?
We don't quite get that.
And "no one" of us expected that...from a beauty queen...and from a German.
Ironically, Pia is half-German. We bet, Miss Germany knew that, too. She's like omniscient, right?
Last time we heard, someone apologized via Facebook on her behalf. But her supposed official statement can no longer be viewed.
8. Miss Universe candidates chanting "Colombia, Colombia!"
Some even snubbed the new queen despite her attempt to console Miss Colombia.
A TMZ source even said, Latina representatives—Miss Puerto Rico, Miss Costa Rica, Miss Mexico and other Latina contestants—were not even blamimg Harvey.
The Hollywood news site wrote, "They were squarely and tearfully blaming Miss Philippines for the embarrassment, although no one could coherently explain why the snafu was her fault."
The people behind Miss Universe should have done something... anything!
But then, it's a business more than an organization promoting the true sense of beauty.
Enough of the negativity.
Let's end this on a positive note.
Now these are some of the inspiring moments and words that social media captured.
7. This message from Leeteuk of Super Junior, Pia's favorite KPop group. Uy!!!
Here's the translation:
Congratulations^^ #miss #universe I heard from the news that there was even the “happening” of announcing the wrong winner. But congratulations to you, an ELF who loves Super Junior, and especially loves Siwon. I also heard that your dress matched our color. I want to say congrats one more time!^^
6. These beauty queens who made the night feel victorious!
We're not seeing kampihan here, just a bevy of beauties feeling happy for Pia and sharing the good vibes.
Thank you, Miss China Yun Fang Xue, Miss Malaysia Vanessa Kumares, Miss Myanmar May Thaw, Miss Mauritius Sheetal Khadun, Miss British Virgin Islands Adorya Baly, Miss Australia Monika Radulovic, Miss Sweden Paulina Brodd, and Miss Israel Avigail Alfatov.
5. Special mention: Miss Bulgaria's gesture
4. Special mention: Miss Australia's revelation
Thanks to Facebook, her interview with Australian morning program Sunrise became viral.
She related, "The girls, the rest of us, 77 contestants, were on the sideline on the stage.
"And we actually saw on the teleprompter, it said, 'Philippines, please take your first walk as Miss Universe' after Colombia was crowned.
“So, we were looking at each other thinking, 'What are we waiting?'
The detail Monika revealed in her interview reaffirmed the "meanness" of the ladies who chanted "Colombia!" in front of Miss Philippines.
Unless of course they were all blind.
3. Special mention: Miss USA Olivia Jordan's "BFF" act
2. Tears of joy at the backstage.
Pia would have done this (and Pinoys would have cried with her) if not for Harvey's blunder.
But what the viewers saw was the ceremonial (but awkward) transfer of the crown from Miss Colombia's head to Pia's and her brief solo moment onstage that was abruptly cut.
This, however, also showed her sensibilities. Yup, she couldn't be too happy while Miss Colombia was sobbing.
The universe got itself a true winner.
1. This photo capturing a real beauty "with a heart."
On Facebook, Concon Siel's wrote a wonderful caption for it.
"I LOVE WHAT THIS PHOTO SYMBOLIZES.
"In a moment of self-sacrifice (or probably just plain confusion), Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach was ready to give back the crown to a crying Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez just to appease a tense situation.
"This picture was captured moments after the TV cameras had gone off from their live global coverage.
"Pia proceeded to where Ariadna was, where a sizeable crowd of Miss Universe contestants had gathered. The crowd was chanting 'Colombia! Colombia!'
"But a show crew whisked Pia away from the crowd, telling her she shouldn't remove her crown because she was THE winner.
"For better or for worse, both Pia and Ariadna will go down in pageant history as the most controversial and talked-about beauty queens of all time.
"But Pia, having gone through this controversy with such class and poise, and humility even, is the true queen."
