In case he meets the end of his showbiz career, Derrick Monasterio already has a fallback option.
At the media launch of Blackwater Men last April 4, in PBA Café, Metrowalk, Pasig, Derrick revealed to PEP.ph (Philippines Entertainment Portal) his “dream job.”
Derek hopes to become a politician.
Politics isn’t a far-fetched prospect, especially after his appointment as one of National Youth Commission’s (NYC) ambassadors.
The Kapuso actor says about his tasks, “I travel to different schools all over the Philippines.
“I give speeches about drug and substance abuse.”
While public speaking was not one of his innate strengths, the 21-year-old star eventually learned the ropes.
He adds, “Naisip ko, I’m comfortable na. I want to influence people na rin.
“I want to contribute something, e.
“Sabihin na natin, ang mga artista popular—very influential.
“So kailangan gamitin yun to their advantage.”
A former Legal Management student at the San Beda College, Derrick is not discouraged by the stigma attached to actors turned politicians.
“Basta ako, I won’t steal from people, and I’m doing my job.
“It’s not important na gumastos ka talaga, e. What’s important is nakikita ka ng tao, you’re doing your job and contributing.”
Once his schedule clears, Derrick plans to resume his studies.
“It’s very important na you know something, e.
“People kasi would not take you seriously, so kailangan may alam ka dun.”
