Another netizen has gone viral after doing a money-saving challenge.
Ysabela Bianca "Yona" Abella, 23 years old, recently shared her accomplishment as she successfully saved PHP42,300 in a span of five months (she started January this year).
The technique? She saved all the fifty pesos she received from purchases.
At press time, the post already has over 86,000 likes and over 30,000 shares.
"I chose to save P50 because for me parang bihira isinusukli ang P50, so feel ko madali lang siya," Yona shares in an interview with FHM.com.ph.
"I was inspired to save by my partner, Kit Cunanan, kasi napansin niya na sobrang gastos ko. I was challenged, so I accepted it.
"This is actually my first time to save.
Yona also advises that when you feel like giving up, just focus back on your goal.
"Mahirap mag-ipon! Minsan iniisip ko na parang I am depriving myself, pero mali yun.
"Instead, you should always think of your inspiration kung bakit mo ito ginawa in the first place.
"Also, always remember na lahat ng success ay may kakambal na disiplina at sacrifice.
"At walang problema kung maliit o malaki ang sweldo mo kasi it's not how much you earn, but how much you save."
Up for the challenge? In case you want to start saving now, Yona shares some tips and tricks that helped her during the process.
1) Pick a strategy.
Yona chose to save up money by doing the 50-peso challenge.
The first step was deciding which saving technique can actually help you get started.
Yona explained, "Dapat pumili kayo nung alam niyong kakayanin niyo. Wag biglain ang sarili.
"You can save all your P20s, all your P50s, all your P100s, or kahit yung mga barya niyo.
"Ang mahalaga, may masimulan."
2) Record your expenses.
Yona suggested that keeping your receipts help monitor your expenses for the day.
She said, "Tinatabi ko lahat nung mga receipts then I compute every expense that I made at the end of the day. Disiplina lang talaga."
3) Make a budget.
Another discipline to practice when saving up would be learning to buy the things you need.
It would help if you list them down.
"Bago ako umalis at pumunta sa mall, nililista ko na lahat ng kailangan ko bilhin.
"Unlike before na umiikot pa ako sa iba-ibang shops, ngayon, dinisiplina ko talaga ang sarili ko to stick to the list and to the budget."
4) Have an inspiration.
Yona started her saving spree because of her family.
"My inspiration for doing this is my family. Whenever I feel like I can't do it, iniisip ko lang sila.
"Iniisip ko rin na mas mahalaga yung mga needs nila kaysa sa mga wants ko.
"Makakahintay naman ang mga gala at gimik ko.
"It's a cliche, but I always keep in mind what my parents told me: 'Pag may tiyaga may nilaga; at 'Pag may tinanim, may aanihin.'"
