How Gretchen Ho came up with the hashtag #WomanInAction

Gretchen Ho is one of World Vision Philippines' newest youth ambassadors. Hailed as a renowned social media influencer, she aims to empower more people to live their dreams.

Time and time again, Gretchen Ho has proven herself to be more than just an athlete with a pretty face.

After emerging as the top volleyball player of the Ateneo Lady Eagles back in college, Gretchen transformed herself from star athlete to prominent television personality and social media influencer.

She is currently a morning show host, motivational speaker, and youth advocate.

Summed up through a hashtag, Gretchen is definitely a "Woman-In-Action."

She told (Philippine Entertainment Portal), "Para sa ’kin, 'Woman in Action' is like my mantra for myself na kapag may vision ako, may gusto ako mangyari, I’m gonna go out there and actually do it."

PEP caught up with the Umagang Kay Ganda host last May 22 at the World Vision Philippines headquarters along Quezon Ave.

Gretchen recently signed up as one of the organization's newest youth ambassadors.

"Yung 'Woman in Action,' I think, it’s very perfect to describe me as a person.

"Naghahanap kasi ako ng word to describe myself, kasi parang feeling ko ang dami kong ginagawa.

"Very dynamic ako na tao, not only because I’m very active in terms of sports, but I also love traveling, seeking adventures, and also empowering women," she explained.

The hashtag began as the title of her blog,

Gretchen opened her blog two years ago and kept the title as her signature hashtag throughout her social media accounts.

The hashtag then fueled her to make her life action-packed.

As she aptly describes, "Parang kapag may pangarap ako, I’ll do the steps that I need to get there.

"Plus, perfect pa, mahilig ako lumabas, mahilig ako mag-discover ng world, 'tapos mahilig ako makipag-usap sa mga tao.

"Ano siya e, parang ine-empower ko rin sarili ko."

WOMEN EMPOWERMENT. Gretchen is thankful that we now live in an age where people are more receptive to the idea that women can do things that men do.

This perspective wouldn't have come to mind without the prevalence of social media.

Gretchen related, "We have a better avenue of knowing what our opportunities are because of social media.

"Parang alam na natin na hindi tayo dapat tumahik lang. Dapat we go out there.

"Natutuwa ako kasi maraming nagko-comment din sa social media ko na parang, ‘Grabe ka, ginagawa mo itong lahat. Ganyan, ganyan. Parang thank you for inspiring us, kaya din namin gawin ‘yan.’"

Seeing the effect of her social media posts on people, especially women, motivated Gretchen to invest further in life's many adventures.

"In a way, gusto ko mag-serve as that inspiration to them na kung may gusto kang gawin, hindi porket babae ka, hindi mo kayang gawin.

"Basta if you want to do something and you set your mind to it, kaya!

"Kahit kasama mo mga lalake, kahit iniisip nila mahina ka, basta kung gusto mo gawin, kaya mo!" she proudly declares.
