Richard Poon and Maricar Reyes released their first relationship guide book 10 Things We Fight About last July 11, at Glorietta 1, Makati City.

Fighting has been perceived as among the factors that weakens a relationship.

But couple Richard Poon and Maricar Reyes actually see their fights as “opportunities.”

At the launch of their new book 10 Things We Fight About last July 16, at Glorietta 1 in Makati City, the couple underlined that these clashes have made their relationship “better.”

Maricar resumed, "Nate-test yung relationship niyo.

"Do’n mo makikita, e."

These misundertandings have helped the couple understand each other more.

The actress said, "Kapag masaya kayo lagi, wala kang matutunan. Wala kang ma-i-improve."

AFTERMATHS OF FIGHTS. Back when the couple was still dating, Richard and Maricar admitted that their fights also helped them determine whether or not they're right for each other.

Maricar recalled a fight that made her ponder about their relationship.

“It was about shoes,” she said.

Given her family background, the Kapamilya actress wasn’t used to expressing her emotions. She grew up learning how to suppress them to avoid clashes.

On the other hand, Richard grew up having a head-strong approach towards confronting the truth.

Maricar continued, “May issues kami sa shoes. Hindi na-bring up agad-agad.

“The fight got pretty bad kasi may pagka-tendency siya [Richard] high strong, very direct. So it was said to me in a way na hindi ako sanay.”

The fight made Maricar ask herself whether Richard was someone she could be with for the rest of her life?

She reflected, “I wondered if this was the person. As in nag-question talaga ako na, ‘Do I still believe in love?’ Alam mo yun?

“Pero kasi, if you go beyond your initial emotion, nung pinag-isipan ko in whole kung sino siya, mas nagustuhan ko.”

It was a matter of finding out whether the things that endeared him to her would matter more than the things she dislikes.

He taught me how to confront. Mas naging mabigat kaysa nararamdaman ko”

Likewise, Richard realized that his wife’s calm demeanor was something he needed.

He was used to people reacting violently to his mistakes that Maricar’s kindness was a breath of fresh air.

The crooner related, “I love her so much kasi siya, kapag mali ko, ay, sobrang gentle, sobrang calm, sobrang kind. I need that.

“Palpak ka, she is very supportive. Yung mali mo.

“That’s beautiful about her.”

The couple’s advice to young couples?

They insisted, “Don’t be afraid to fight.”
