Some people naturally draw mixed reactions.
Ellen Adarna is one of those.
Some find her candor refreshing; others say she's crass.
Some are bothered by her liberal views; others praise her daring.
Some hate her; others love her.
But, mind you, she's not losing sleep over what people think about her.
If she wants to post her nude photos on social media, "go lang."
She's "walang kiyeme" star, according to the people she has worked with her in a photo shoot.
She is truly comfortable in her own skin... even if she's not totally perfect.
In a previous interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal), she revealed, "Because I'm clumsy and my skin is very thin and sensitive.
"Even if it's not deep, nagdi-discolor siya, nagba-brown siya or nagre-red siya so kailangan nila-lighten."
But she looks flawless in all her selfies, what is her trick?
"Nag-give up na ako, makeup na lang or concealer, yun lang."
Born to a wealthy family in Cebu, Ellen was taught about the value of hard work at an early age.
In her interview with FHM Philippines, she related, "I'm the only daughter—I have four brothers—but I'm not really sheltered.
"My dad brought me up the American way.
"I began working when I was in the fourth grade in our family business—real estate and a motel chain.
"Summers, I didn't have allowance, I had to work for it. It was that way up until college.
"Then after college I still didn't get anything. I had to work for my own money.
"My dad didn't support any of my kalokohan."
She is a wild child, and is the drink-till-you drop type. But Ellen takes responsibilities seriously.
This 29-year-old beauty shows up at her commitments on time despite having a terrible hangover.
And she switches on her beast mode when she works out.
She also finds time to pause, detox, play the piano, have a "rampa sa umaga" with her dog Kenzo, and do some "aunt duties."
Ellen is also unapologetic about her actions and decisions.
She does not see the need to explain her candid quotes either.
She described her short-term relationship with JC Intal as "ang pinakamalabong six months ever in my life."
She also branded some of her exes as "walang pera," and went as far as to say, "yung iba pa nga, nangungutang"
She was casual about her seven-month romance with presidential son Baste Duterte when he was still in a relationship with Kate Necesario, the mother of his kid.
Doesn't she really care about what other people think?
In one of her earliest interviews, the then-newbie put it this way: "Well, that's really me.
"Hindi ako yung merong disagree kaya hindi ko gagawin.
"If they don't, bahala sila.
"If matuwa sila, hindi rin naman ako yung nabubuhay para i-approve ng tao yung sinasabi o ginagawa ko.
"Masaya naman. You live by your own rules. Try mo."
She also considers "mabilis mag-move on" as one of her gifts.
Although the Kapamilya actress did shed tears over her first breakup, "Dinamdam ko yun."
But after that, "Parang sanayan lang."
True enough, after her split with businessman Raoul Olbes in September 2014, she told PEP.ph, "Kapag ayoko na, ayoko na and walang iyak-iyak.
"Kailangan move on kaagad!
"And besides, hindi naman kasi magiging ganun if walang reasons.
"Kaya naman nag-e-end ang relationships because may dahilan.
"And alam naman namin pareho yung reasons kung bakit nag-end na yung relationship."
How does she do that?
She said, "Inom lang ako nang inom...date-date lang muna."
Ellen's life is as colorful as her personality, and at times extremes, "Yung sobrang saya and sobrang lungkot."
In an interview in 2011, she said, "Nothing really shocks me."
In March this year, when Pietro Boselli, the world's hottest math teacher, expressed his interest in meeting Ellen, her reaction was nonchalant:
"O di ba, bigla akong nahilig sa math. Magpapaturo ako sa kanya ng calculus!"
She also made K-Pop fans green with envy when her photos partying with Big Bang's Seungri in Bali, Indonesia, circulated online.
That was in August, the same month she met Big Sean, the ex-boyfriend of Ariana Grande.
Does she ever look for love?
At the presscon for Pasion de Amor in February 2016, she said, “When it comes, it comes. It will find me."
She admits to insecuritlies, such as what will happen to her in the next five years.
She's fidgety because she's dead set on getting pregnant "when I'm 30."
That was her declaration in February 2017.
Her parents—Alan Modesto Adarna and Meriam Go—were aware of her plan.
Ellen related, "I told my father that I want to get pregnant when I'm 30, so next year na yun."
The Kapamilya actress, who will turn 30 on April 2, 2018, initially wanted a foreigner to father her baby.
"Meron akong ka-deal na magiging daddy. AFAM. He was my ex-boyfriend."
She got her wish, just not the "AFAM" daddy part.
PEP.ph broke the news a week ago, naming John Lloyd Cruz as the father.
The mom-to-be does not really plan her life, but she knows what she wants and makes sure she gets them.
Things could have been more predictable and easier had she chosen to live with her family in Cebu.
But Ellen has the guts to face the unknown, and the will power to rise above any situation.
