Jodi Sta. Maria can now add "acupuncture detoxification specialist" to her credentials.
Aside from being a mom and an actress, the 36-year-old star is also a student taking up B.S. Psychology at Southville International School and Colleges, where she topped the Dean's List last semester.
Her latest achievement—the completion of the six-day course for Ear Acupuncture for Detoxification—was made possible by the National Acupuncture Detoxification Association (NADA).
On Instagram, the Kapamilya star wrote, "Today, I am a certified Acupuncture Detoxification Specialist!
"After a week of intense training, I found a better appreciation for those actively practicing this.
"When you start your day healing people from 8am to 5pm, you realize that this is hard work. It is when we meet others' needs that our needs are satisfied in the process. By healing an individual, you heal a community. You need not be a medical practitioner to do this - all you have to be is someone who cares for another person's well being.
"I met new people, made new friends, who I know will eventually become family because we share the same advocacy. I am truly grateful for all that I have learned here and I am fired up to share it with you!"
The training for this ear acupuncture procedure helps treat drug and alcohol problems.
Here's how NADA Philippines' website described the NADA protocol, which consists of the "insertion of five, small, fine, sterile stainless steel needles under the surface of the skin on specific sites in the outer ear."
1. The recipients relax, and sit quietly in groups for 30 to 45 minutes.
2. The five "standard points" help "control withdrawal symptoms," and help the patients become more clear-headed and comfortable in going through talk therapy.
