Mavy and Cassy Legaspi appreciate the open communication they have with their parents Carmina Villarroel and Zoren Legaspi.
The 19-year-old celebrity twins reveal in their PEP Exclusives interview in November 2020 that they began opening up to their parents when they were 16.
Mavy says, "I think for me kasi blood is thicker than water, so I guess iyan iyong perks na you get to—you don't hide anything.
"Parang, ito iyong kuwento sa barkada mo, ito iyong kuwento sa pamilya mo. Walang ganoon. It's like my parents know what my friends know.
"I feel like you’re more open to talk with them, so I guess that's really a nice thing."
Mavy and Cassy acknowledge that kids and parents go through an awkward phase in the beginning.
Cassy remarks, "It wasn't easy for us, ha, kasi siyempre when growing up sa mga awkward stages mo, parang, 'Ay, will I tell my parents? Baka magalit sila…'"
But open communication does happen when both sides assure one another that it is safe to share.
Mavy, speaking on behalf of the kids' point of view, says, "You tend to forget about the fear na those are your parents, you shouldn't say that to your parents or you shouldn't share that with your parents. Once you knock down that barrier… smooth sail.
"We were able to do that around 16 na. Siyempre may mga high-school drama left and right that we talk with them… so I guess you just have to take that step to break that wall."
Cassy remembers how their parents assured them it was safe to open up.
She recalls, "So, let's say before, if I hide stuff from my parents, they teach me na, 'Don't hide it from us because we won't get mad at you. We're here to help you.'"
Mavy seconds this, "Usually iyong ganoon. It's not like, 'I know you have a secret. Tell us!' Hindi ganoon, e. They would tell a story na, 'Yeah, we did that. We went through that also.' You relate.
"I think it's just because magaling sila mag-communicate."
Who do they open up to first?
Cassy says, "I think depende sa topic on that day. For me, ah. Kasi siyempre iyong pambabae ko, siyempre kay Mommy."
Mavy reveals they have certain topics that they know they should tell their mother first, but there is never a time when only one parent knows a story and the other doesn't.
He says, "We always eat together, always bonding at home, sumasali na rin iyong isang parent. Like when Mom only knows it, Dad will find out eventually and will join the conversation."
Cassy quips, "Everyone knows. Everyone knows everything!"
