When Aiko Melendez lost weight, her son Andre Yllana was among the first to cheer for his mom.
Did his mom's "balik alindog" project affect him in any way?
He told PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) during the opening of The Hub Foodpark at R20 on Mindanao Avenue, "Yung sa food, hindi naman po ganun na kami rin ay diet. Kasi meron po siyang prepared meals kasi.
"Yung effect po is more on yung sinasabi ng mga tao."
The 16-year-old Star Magic talent then revealed how bashers motivated his mom to lose weight.
"‘Napakataba mo. Napakaganda mo, ganyan ka.’"
Aiko, he said, didn't mind the body-shaming comments, but when she realized that her children get to read the bashing, the actress decided to take her "balik alindog project" more seriously.
Pag binasa mo, you will feel bad para sa taong bina-bash, lalo Mommy mo.
"Happy kami for her. I was totally supportive."
AIKO AS A MOM. Is she strict or cool?
Andre took the chance to laud the 41-year-old Kapamilya star.
"I always say this pero paulit-ulit na lang po, but I can’t see anyone else na magiging better as a mom for me.
"Kumbaga ba, si mom is the best for me."
What was her "bilin" to him when he joined showbiz?
"Sabi niya, ‘Kaya mo ba?’
"Sabi ko, ‘Paano kaya?’"
Then Aiko warned him about the possible criticisms.
"Sabi niya, ‘Una sa lahat, maraming magba-bash sa ’yo, maraming magsasabing di mo kaya, maraming magsasabing wala kang kwenta.’
"Sabi ko, ‘A, ganoon ba?’
"Siguro po, the first few incidents, maraming magba-bash, dadamdamin ko pero I will try my best to not."
With his mom telling him to expect the worst, Andre said he knows what he's getting himself into.
"Nabrief po ako, napag-isipan kong mabuti so I could say I’m ready."
Lastly, PEP asked about the relationship of his mom and dad Jomari Yllana.
Andre answered, "They’re good. They’re good as friends."
