Having three daughters who are in their teen years can be challenging, but single mom and actress Sunshine Cruz finds this current phase of motherhood as something really exciting.
Whenever Sunshine posts on Instagram a photo with her daughters Angelina, 15, Samantha, 12, and Cheska, 11, people are quick to describe them as "magkakabarkada."
And for the Wildflower actress, that's exactly the feeling.
Sunshine told PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) during her contract signing with ALV Talent Circuit last September 14, at Full Belly Craft Kitchen in Quezon City, "It's really exciting kasi parang na kami magkakabarkada.
"Yung the way na pinag-uusapan namin mga crushes nila.
"Manonood kami ng sine, 'Oh, he's so hot!'
"'Ano?' Sabi ko, 'Hot ka d'yan!'"
But still, her daughters treat her with respect.
"[Being magkakabarkada] is fine knowing that they respect and listen to you, and alam naman ng mga bata na kailangan nila ang advice ng magulang.
"Grateful ako and blessed na talagang nakikinig, nagtitiwala sila sa 'kin at nirerespeto nila ang bawat sabihin ko sa kanila," she says.
BALANCING ACT. Striking up a friendship with your kids is good way to keep the communication lines open.
But there is a right time to be a friend and a right time to be a parent.
She added, "Meron kaming bonding time. May kulitan time kami.
"Pero when it comes to kailangan na maging strict, I talk to them and they know how to listen.
"Automatic na 'yon, e. Kasi sabi ko, 'Anak, please lang, it's not easy to be a father and mother at the same time.
"'And what I am doing is not for me.
"'I am 40 years old. Pabalik na ako, kayo papunta pa lang.'
"So kung anong ina-advice ko is not for me pero para sa kabutihan nila.
"At sino namang magulang ang gusto na hindi maganda mangyari sa buhay ng mga anak?"
