Kylie Padilla remembered how scared she was to hold her son during their first week together.
The first-time mom gave birth to Baby Alas Joaquin last August 5.
In an exclusive interview with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) last October 2, she revealed: "Siyempre, nung first week, wala akong alam.
"Ayoko siya hawakan, ayoko siya paliguan.
“Natakot ako nung first time siya paliguan!"
Good thing Aljur’s mother Amor was around to help Kylie’s maternal instincts kick in.
“Sabi ko, ‘Tita! Hindi ko kaya ‘to!'”
“'Tapos sabi niya, 'Hawakan mo yung anak mo. Anak mo ‘yan, kaya mo ‘yan!'
“Tama naman siya. Nagawa ko naman.
“Trinain ako ng mommy nito [ni Aljur]...'Matututo ka rin, observe ka lang, e.'
“Tapos, siyempre, automatic na rin yung motherly instinct, papasok bigla.”
PARENTING DUTIES. Between Kylie and Aljur, it was mostly the first-time dad who took on parenting duties at night.
“Night shift siya,” Kylie said. “Gising siya sa gabi, e.”
Whenever Kylie needs to rest, Aljur takes over.
“Buong araw ko na siya inaalagaan. Kapag ako yung antok na antok na, [si Aljur] nagpapatulog [kay Alas].
“So ang nangyayari, pakain ko muna, tapos papasa ko na. Tulog na ako.”
Kylie says Aljur is also in charge of burping duties.
“Siya yung taga-burp.
“Minsan, pinapaarawan niya.”
DOING THEIR OWN THING. Some moms look up to other moms.
Kylie, however, does not want to have any peg for mothering. She simply hopes to be the kind of mom that her son needs.
“For a while, parang naghahanap ako, but then sabi ko, parang gumagaya ka na.
“Saka, baka hindi ka na maging honest…
“We’re doing our own thing.
“Siyempre, kailangan yung core, sa ’ming dalawa ‘yon," referring to her fiancé Aljur.
She continues, “Hindi yung ‘Sila ganito!’ Nape-pressure kaming dalawa. Ayoko.
“Kaming dalawa lang—kung ano’ng kaya naming ibigay.”
