Leila Alcasid celebrated her 20th birthday yesterday, October 16.
Ogie Alcasid and Michelle Van Eimeren’s daughter was five years old when she last celebrated her birthday in the Philippines.
The family marked the occasion with an intimate dinner party.
Ogie was one of the first to greet Leila on her special day.
The singer-songwriter posted on Instagram a throwback photo of Leila when she was much younger and placed it beside a current portrait of them.
He captioned it: “Happy birthday to our dearest @leilaalcasid.
“Love you with all my heart.”
Michelle sent her birthday message via Instagram as well, saying, “Happy 20th to my gorgeous girl @leilalcasid
“I'm so happy to be with you for your birthday!
“I am incredibly proud of you and the young woman you've become.
“Happy birthday my darling, I love you with all my heart!”
Leila’s stepmom Regine Velasquez also didn’t miss the chance to greet her stepdaughter. She said in her Instagram post: “Happy Birthday to the best Ate (not to mention the most beautiful) in the world!
“We love you!!!”
DADDY’S PRIDE. Before Leila turned 20, PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal) and a small group of reporters caught up with Ogie and Leila as the father-daughter tandem experienced their first Star Magic Ball together last September 30, at the Makati Shangri-La.
The proud dad said, “Sabi ko, siyempre parang homecoming din niya, so I told her, ‘Why don’t you have a party?’
“So, pa-party siya sa bahay with some of her friends.
“She’s kinda preparing for it.
“I’m happy that she chose to have it in the house.”
As a parent, Ogie has always tackled fatherhood the same way his parents did when he was around Leila’s age.
He said, “I wanna give a freehand on learning a lot of things in her life because that’s what my parents did to me.
“Hindi naman pinabayaan, pero inaalagwa niya kami.”
Ogie is proud that Leila was able to make the big decision of moving to the Philippines on her own.
He continued, “I’m proud of her that she’s taking control of her life.
“Yung pagpunta niya dito sa Pilipinas, it’s a big decision for her.
“I don’t think anyone of her age would have easily done [it].
“She did it on her own!”
Leila is talented just like her dad.
Ogie remarked, “Nagugulat din ako sometimes when she’s on stage.
“She just says she has stage fright, but she’s a natural.
“Yeah, I see a lot of her in me.”
And what's Ogie’s simple advice to Leila as she ventures into her 20s?
“You know, there’s a tendency for us to feel old when we’re 20, but the truth is we’re not.”
