Kaye Abad and Paul Jake Castillo are a month away from meeting their little boy.
The couple flew back to Manila as Paul Jake and his family's company launched their newest product, the Efficascent Relaxing Oil, to the press last November 21, at the Manila House in Bonifacio Global City.
Kaye attended her husband's event as one of the product’s brand ambassadors.
After the launch, the soon-to-be parents sat down with PEP.ph (Philippine Entertainment Portal), and talked about their excitement as soon-to-be parents.
Kaye, who shot to fame via Tabing Ilog in March 1999, had been waiting for this moment.
“Ako, ever since, I’ve always wanted to have my own.
“Since Tabing Ilog, naging young mom na ako. Sabi ko, ‘Totoo na ito this time. Hindi na siya pillow sa tiyan!’
“And totoong magiging mommy na ako, hindi na siya role lang!”
The 35-year-old Kapamilya actress' pregnancy has been relatively easy so far.
“Mga morning sickness lang,” Kaye said before turning to Paul Jake, “Mood swings na masungit, wala naman 'no?”
He assured, “Wala naman."
Kaye continued, “Very emotional lang ako, but yeah.”
Paul Jake threw in, “Parang hindi nga buntis, e!”
The “stressful” phase was first trimester.
“Actually, surprisingly...it was just stressful nung time before I knew I was pregnant kasi nagka-vertigo ako.
“After that, I guess stressful din yung mga bawal sa akin.”
Most pregnant women are allowed to eat anything to their heart’s content, but Kaye wasn’t allowed to eat much sweets.
“Before I got pregnant, hindi ako mahilig sa sweets. Mas more on salty ako.
“But when I got pregnant, weird na gusto ko every after meals merong sweets. Ice cream!
"'Tapos kapag makakakita ako ng cake, ah, grabe, sarap!
“'Tapos hindi ako puwede kasi bawal akong sugar. Bawal ako ng sugar because high yung sugar ko.
“E, di ba, sabi nila when you’re pregnant, do'n ka ma-e-excuse na you can eat anything you want?
“But in my case, hindi siya puwede.
“Yun lang naman yung stress na na-encounter namin.”
PARENTHOOD. As a first-time mom-to-be, Kaye has been asking advice from her mommy friends.
“My friends in Cebu, some of them are moms na.
“Most of them will give birth pa lang din, pero earlier than me.
“So, may ipagtatanong pa ako ng ‘What are you going through?’ ‘What to bring in the hospital kapag manganganak na?’
“And then I asked naman my friends here in Manila, like si Nikka Garcia [Patrick Garcia’s wife], what to buy, what not to buy kasi sinasabi nila, ‘Huwag mo bilhin iyan kasi mabilis lumaki…’
“I always ask them.”
Have they already thought about the kind of parents they might be?
Kaye quickly said, “[Si Paul Jake] strict.”
Paul Jake clarified, “Alam ko na rin, [but] I’m not going to be [that] strict.”
Kaye added, “Kung paano siya ni-raise ng Daddy niya, ganun din. Strict, but yeah, at least balance.”
The actress said she'll be the more “soft-hearted” parent between them.
"So kapag pagalitan [ni Paul Jake], ako yung ‘It’s okay.’”
Paul Jake then quipped, “Strategy niya para siya hanapin ng anak!”
But what do they look forward to about parenthood?
Kaye spoke for both of them, “About this baby little boy, kung anong magiging ugali niya, sinong kamuhka...Do’n ako excited.”
